This is horrible to post, but I may as well post it. We are essentially shutting down research operations in my group, which is focused on treatments for pediatric brain cancer. I’m a well funded investigator, and there’s no choice. Science can’t function without the stability of NIH

We need two people to step up into this editorial role. It has been incredibly fulfilling for me to have been co-editor for 5+ years, but now it’s time for us to let another team shape the field.

Are you an #envhum scholar looking to make a difference for the field? Become a co-editor of the journal Environmental Humanities! We need a new set of 2 co-editors to replace Franklin & I from Jan 2026. See the call here: environmentalhumanities.org Contact us if you have any questions.

Nice opinion piece by @adamsobel.bsky.social about destruction of U.S. science. thebulletin.org/2025/02/how-...

I think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service. “Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.

White House pauses all federal grants, sparking confusion

The Trump administration has put a hold on all federal financial grants and loans, affecting tens of billions of dollars in payments.

This is a huge tranche of material. Remember: the secret police unwittingly compile early drafts of social history. There's plenty to be gleaned from these files for culture history, the history of sexuality, histories of immigrant lives, and so on.

The full cache of declassified MI5 files, released by the National Archives today, can be found here www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/about/news/l... Among other things, they cover the Cambridge Spy ring, including Kim Philby, Anthony Blunt, and John Cairncross.
