We’re doing meaningful election protection work in one of the areas of the country most targeted by the Trump regime. We also fund a good bit of mutual aid infrastructure. Especially if you live in a blue state and you’re looking for a way to make a difference…

School lockdowns lasted too long. We placed the biggest burden of inconvenience and loneliness on our children. And, to a lesser extent, parents—mostly women. None of that means the overall response was remotely adequate. The inadequacy made interminable school lockdowns seem necessary.

My experience is of every American COVID-19 mitigation effort being obviously insufficient, and ended far too soon. To see people now argue that they somehow were too much, going too far? Not anti-vax or MAGA people, but folks just out here on Bluesky? It staggers me.

Even though Yu Miri has always lived in Japan… even though her father always lived in Japan… even though she speaks almost no Korean, she is a citizen of South Korea instead of Japan. And even so, the Akutagawa winner represents the best of what it is to be Japanese. 1/5

NEW: Yu Miri is one of Japan's most celebrated authors. Yet some say that, due to her background, she has no right to criticize the country. Why the award-winning writer is under attack, and how it's rekindled a discussion around what it means to be Japanese.
