On June 13–14, 1941, the USSR began mass deportations from Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. Over 40,000 were sent to Siberia, Kazakhstan, and other remote areas. Repression resumed after 1944; in March 1949, Operation Priboi deported nearly 95,000 more.
