A Male Reed Warbler on a thin plant stalk. The bird is left of centre of the shot perched near the top of tall, dried out plant stalk that is bent over at a 45 degree angle with the weight of the bird. It is turned slightly to look right so that its front, belly and right side can be seen. Another plant stalk is vertical beside the bird. The background is an out focus blue sky with two thin, vertical tree branches sparsely covered in green leaves.

Its large white wings are flapping down and its black legs and contrasting bright yellow feet haven't yet been tucked up underneath it so they are dangling under its tail. Its round yellow and black eye is focused but not on me as I first thought but instead we can just see the head and top of the neck of a Grey Heron lurking in the long grass.

This is an image of a Common Tern shot against a grey/blue sky background above the shore line of the River Clyde at Erskine. It flew along the shore line, at times hovering like a Kestrel as it followed marine prey, before diving successfully a couple of times and flying off down river after the second dive. Its wings are outstretched mid-upbeat, showing dark wing tip feathers and otherwise white upper feathers. It has a solid black head from which protrudes its sharp, red bill, with a black tip. Its head is focused down, towards the unseen water below, as its body is poised ready to plummet into the water. Its underside is mainly white showing off its red legs tucked up underneath it. Its tail is spread wide and is practically translucent.

This image shows side views of two Common Gulls facing each other, but about 30cm apart. They were wading in the shallows of the Forth of Clyde near Erskine. As each bird is side on to the camera we can see their pale yellow bills, which are relatively short and slim for gulls. They have brilliant white heads, necks and breasts, with grey backs and wings, which are tucked back on to their backs. They have black tipped tail feathers with slim white bands on them and pale yellow legs and feet.

The image shows them from their right side with the Peahen standing guard behind her chicks as they peck, heads down, at the ground beside her. Compared to her resplendent partner who was posing in the main garden the Peahen is quite drab with her grey body and neck above her white breast. Her face is white with a black patch around her eye. The chicks are light brown with white fluffy legs.

This image shows an adult Gannet flying from right to left across the frame. Taken from slightly above the bird the background is the distant, dark sea surface. It was a beautiful day at RSPB Bempton Cliffs reserve so the bird is lit beautifully in the late afternoon sunshine showing off its brilliant white neck, back and tail feathers and the central panels of its wings which also have broad black tips. Its nape is the characteristic yellow of Gannets and its bill is unmistakably pointed, long and white with black lined edges and black below its pale blue eye. Its black and white legs are hanging below its body as it approaches the cliffs. This was my first visit to this reserve and it was amazing.

A Grey Heron flies gracefully across a cloudless blue sky, captured in sharp side profile with its broad wings fully outstretched. The bird’s long, pointed orange bill leads the way, while its pale grey body, black shoulder markings, and distinctive black stripe extending from the eye are clearly visible. Its neck is folded into the characteristic S-shape of herons in flight, and its long legs trail neatly behind with outstretched toes. For @janesgallery.bsky.social’s #SmallBirdSaturday this is one of at least eight Long-tailed Tits I had the pleasure of watching recently. #ECK

This image shows a young - probably not long fledged - Long-tailed tit perched on a thin branch in the trees. It is almost face on to the camera but something high up has caught its attention as it has twisted its head to peer upwards. Against a blurred background of branches and foliage its new light grey and dark grey plumage on its breast and underside stand out nicely. It hasn’t developed its full plumage yet so its head is still light brown. Taken in North Yorkshire.

I liked the lines and angles of the rear view of this building for #AlphabetChallenge #WeekBforBehind #ECK

This is a view of the rear of a brick built, flat roofed commercial building in a local market town. It is shot from ground level and the building almost fills the frame with a small area of blue sky above it. The main and larger section, on the left, has a small brick chimney stack just visible above the edge of the roof, which has a black gutter running along it leading to a black down pipe that drops down the right side of the section to the ground. It also has a small, white rectangular window at the top right and a large, grey, rectangular slatted double door at ground level, with two black metal posts in front of it. The black down pipe runs between the main section and the smaller right hand section which is in 2 parts, each stepping back from the main section. The left side of this section has a large rectangular window on the top floor and a smaller rectangular window at ground floor level.
