This study comprehensively characterizes non-specific #esophagitis (NSE) and elucidates eosinophil-independent fibrosis mechanisms. NSE appears to be a distinct fibrotic phenotype of the esophagus, without any considerable overlap with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other chronic inflammatory disorders such as eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) or lymphocytic esophagitis. Our data suggest the development of fibrotic traits independently of inflammatory changes, in particular tissue eosinophilia.

With over 150 references, this review article provides an overview of the effect of both nutritional and toxic trace elements on allergic diseases. It includes a discussion on the role of trace elements in the pathophysiology of allergies (iron, zinc, selenium, copper, fluorides, manganese, iodine, molybdenum, chromium, cobalt, silicon, nickel and boron) and a summary of reported studies. Overall, additional nutritional supplementation of trace elements is not currently supported for the prevention or management of allergic diseases, unless there is a clinical deficiency.

This is a post-hoc analysis of data from 58 patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis enrolled in the standard-of-care arm of a multicentre Phase 3 randomized controlled trial.
Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis indicated that the predictive value of symptom relief using standard-of-care therapy (mometasone furoate and loratadine) at day 28 did not significantly increase after day 7, as measured by the mean reflective total symptom score (rTNSS).

The SENDO cohort study (2015–2024) prospectively analyzed the impact of ultra-processed food (UPF) consumption on #asthma and atopy in 1,546 Spanish children. Higher UPF intake (NOVA 4 classification) was significantly associated with an increased risk of asthma but not atopy, atopic dermatitis, neumoallergen sensitation, food allergy over five years. Findings highlight the need for public health strategies promoting healthier childhood diets to prevent respiratory diseases.

Dr Janice Layhadi is a Research Associate at the Immunomodulation and Tolerance Group in the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London. Her work focuses on translational research and the utility of multi-omic approaches to uncover mechanisms and biomarkers of allergen immunotherapy, including the role of IL-10-producing lymphoid cells. She has been recognised with several major awards, including the EAACI–Allergopharma Research Award (2022), the EAACI Early Career Research Award (2025), the Henning-Loewenstein Research Award (2025), and the Stallergenes Foundation Award (2025). She is co-author of more than 50 papers with nearly 2,000 citations spanning innate lymphoid cells, basophils, and regulatory immune pathways in allergy, and currently serves as Co-Chair of the EAACI Scientific Programme Committee (2026–2028).

This systematic review evaluates the cost-effectiveness of subcutaneous (SCIT) and sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) for the treatment of allergic #rhinitis in comparison to conventional symptomatic pharmacotherapy, such as oral antihistamines and intranasal corticosteroids. The majority of included studies (n = 35) concluded that both SCIT and SLIT may represent a cost-effective intervention for the treatment of allergic rhinitis, especially in patients with co-morbid asthma and when models incorporated sustained post-treatment benefits.

Inhaling fine particles of crystalline silica dust presents an occupational and environmental health hazard, and chronic exposure has been linked with silicosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (#COPD) and lung cancer. The inflammatory molecular mechanisms resulting from exposure to silica particles in house dust mite (HDM)-sensitized mice were compared to those in a steroid-hyporesponsive HDM/cdiGMP model. The combination of crystalline silica and house dust mite aggravated steroid hyperresponsiveness by activating the STING signaling pathway and disrupting glucocorticoid receptor signaling.

In this study, the authors demonstrate that mucosal-associated invariant T cell (MAIT) cell antagonism during sensitization and challenge with house dust mite (HDM) worsens the development of airway hyperreactivity without effects on type 2 or 17 associated cytokine production or lung inflammation. Rather, MAIT cells appear to regulate HDM-induced asthma through direct inhibition of IgE production. In vitro co culture systems demonstrate MAIT cells can directly inhibit B cell production of IgE through IFNγ-dependent mechanisms.
