Congratulations to the students winners of the First Symposium on Tropical Meteorology and Climate at the @ametsoc.org 106th Annual Meeting in Houston! 🌤️🌎 A sincere thank you to our judges for your time and expertise in making this event a success. 👏🌀
Last December, weather and climate scientists sat down with us to tell us why they loved the National Center for Atmospheric Research, and why it benefits us all. Last night, the NSF began dismantling it. Listen to what they have to say, and why it's urgent that we #SaveNCAR wclivestream.com/act

Here's our reporting on the proposed dismantling of the jewel of US atmospheric science, @ncar-ucar.bsky.social. The plan is to break NCAR apart and disburse some parts to other locations (like the research aircraft fleet) and eliminate others. www.nature.com/articles/d41... 🧪 #AGU25 #climate
Trump team plans to break up ‘global mothership’ of climate science
Much of the National Center for Atmospheric Research’s non-climate portfolio will be dispersed, the White House says.

NCAR provides the facilities, tools, & data critical for atmospheric sci education & research. Leading computer models of the Earth System are developed here. The training, continuing education, & sci exchanges NCAR makes possible are irreplaceable. Its dismantling would be chaotic & devastating.
Exclusive: The Trump administration is moving to dismantle the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado, according to a senior White House official, taking aim at one of the world's leading climate research labs.
NCAR and UCAR have released a statement. NSF has not provided any guidance to UCAR or NCAR leadership about this whole situation. news.ucar.edu/133054/ucar-...

It is hard to overstate how critical @ncar-ucar.bsky.social is to climate science in the US and around the world. It's the beating heart of our field. Generations of scientists have trained there, and almost everyone I know relies on deep collaborations with NCAR scientists. It's end is unthinkable.

This would be devastating to the field of atmospheric & Earth system science. @ncar-ucar.bsky.social is a world leader and beyond the important research their own scientists do, provides critical resources to the university community. Dismantling or defunding it would be a huge mistake.
The Trump administration said it will be dismantling the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado, one of the world’s leading Earth science research institutions.
