I’ve just received the eBay email ‘Updates to our User Privacy Notice’. eBay chose NOT to draw people’s attention to using your data to train AI models. It seems a fairly innocuous email & so I thought “yeah, I’ll look at it later.” IMO it’s sneaky & =unfair processing

Text from eBay advising of an update to their Privacy Notice that fails to draw attention to the fact they intend to use your data to train their AI models. We're updating our User Privacy Notice to make it easier to understand how we use personal data. Ensuring your data is secure is our top priority, and we want to make sure you have the latest details. The updated User Privacy Notice will take effect on November 26, 2026. Key updates include: • Information about eBay Live, including how personal data is used when you participate in Live experiences. • More information about how Al is used across our services, including our approach to developing and using Al responsibly, with additional resources available on a dedicated into page. • More information about the personal data we collect, why it's used, and how it's shared within the eBay corporate family, with trusted service providers and partners who help deliver our services. We encourage you to review the updated User Privacy Notice to learn more about these changes. eBay users! Don't ignore today's email, even though it looks like a boring standard update to the User Privacy Notice. They want to use your data to train AI models. If you click the link over the words "the right to object", it takes you to a page with a toggle button letting you opt out.

It's not even the ethics of it. My career, my hobbies, my free time, hell, my whole life took off once I fully left Twitter. It is a place to go if you want to be stuck in a neverending race war feedback loop. Like not using ChatGPT, not using Twitter is a superpower. Remain employable; stay off it.

I am way too online for my own good, and I had an unreasonably large twitter following, and I really *enjoyed* twitter for a lot of years, and yet leaving there and never looking back was maybe the easiest what-felt-like-a-big-ethical decision I've ever made.
