Jenny is a great friend and colleague (and this project’s mastermind). Rannon was an outstanding student at my US Econ History class. I’m very happy that the paper on our assignment about racial covenants and systemic racism in the US found a home at the International Review of Economics Education

Too economist to be a historian. Too historian to be an economist. More coffee, please.
Academics seeing students worrying about the assignment (or exam!) the night before the deadline shouldn’t be surprised by the idea of voters paying attention just the day(s?) before an election

JFC, the Telegraph description reads: "Fresh from their 'stop the boats' demonstration in Dover on Saturday, masked protesters board a train as three female passengers, unconnected with the men, look on." And the title is - I kid you not - "Race for the train". AREN'T MASKED RACIST MILITIAS FUN?
Look at the Daily Telegraph today.
He pasado de vivir en una comunidad (Madrid) que prácticamente se jacta de no tener aire acondicionado en los colegios públicos a un estado (Utah) donde mi hija ha enfermado por el frío en el aula (también pública) cuando fuera hay 35°C. No elijo bien.
Mientras tanto, en la misma Comunidad de Madrid...
“There are certainly individual extreme right politicians, but overall, the AfD is more or less in the political center” Overall, in Sachsen-Anhalt, almost *half of all voters* agree with this statement. Just think about how far the normalization has progressed, 81 years after the end of WWII #ltw
There were people who thought Pedri and Rodri were substitutes rather than the most amazing complements since Xavi and Iniesta

I finaly read it. My repulsion against selecting on the dependent variable still dominates my strong agreement with the argument (interconnectivity matters a lot, and the idea of a self-made person is BS) 🎁 link: www.nytimes.com/2026/08/28/o...

OTD in 1939, Claudette Colvin was born. In 1955, a few months before Rosa Parks, Colvin was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white woman on a segregated Montgomery bus. The NAACP decided to focus on Parks b/c Colvin (age 15) was “mouthy,” “emotional,” “feisty” & pregnant. #WeTheMen

This is why most faculty cannot make sense of the 'woke' University trope. Our lived experiences bear little resemblance to it. This is far closer to the norm.
UW-Madison professor engages in multiple sexual relationships with students, disparages another over their sexual orientation and appearance, creates hostile environment, and department leadership covers it all up. And in true “pass the trash” fashion, moves on to ASU once forced to resign.
BLS this morning, with revised 2Q data: "The labor share, which is the percentage of output that accrues to workers in the form of compensation, was 52.8 percent in the second quarter of 2026, the lowest level in the series, which begins in the first quarter of 1947."
1/n We've just put a new (long) paper online: osf.io/preprints/so... It's a new history of macroeconomics, and it's been one very, very important for me to write It summarizes what historians of macro have been up to in the 10 years, but more importantly...

I'm sorry to inform @johnholbein1.bsky.social that he's been accused of being one of us (an economist). You have the right to a lawyer. someunpleasant.substack.com/p/extraordin...
We've all asked this, but "the United States" isn't taking these actions. A fairly small group of wealthy (and would-be wealthy), anti-intellectual, racist, and misogynist men (+ groupies, hangers on) is dismantling science. Science = process; it's not there if you can't keep doing it and learning.
“From Paris, it seems like a mystery. How could the United States, which has set the pace for global science for nearly a century, systematically dismantle its dominant position – and, above all, why?” From here, too, mes amis. www.lemonde.fr/en/opinion/a...
This (from Tom Wood) suggests more than just the typical thermostatic backlash is happening right now. In sixteen months, Trump and Republicans have turned the GOP’s largest party ID advantage this century into a tie for its biggest deficit

Huge loss for economics in general and economic history in particular. Rest in peace.
