scrap 9 -------- [language never comes easy to me —so languid with neurosis— and often i am left to dream about you, about myself, as if you will never understand me— as if i do not understand me, myself.]

it has simultaneously never felt more important and more like a losing battle to be principally opposed to lowest-common-denominator AI bullshit. my god are so many things obviously being put out partially or fully through AI generation and no quality control at this point

feel like a basic problem with that Annie Jacobsen book is that an engineered bioweapon with a hypothetical R0 of 11 and a functionally 100% fatality rate is simply not a serious thing you "plan for," or can "plan for;" the only real approach is for no country to have bioweapons at all

the downside of having referendums in capitalism: if you're not careful (and we in America haven't been) what is supposed to be a system of popular initiative and accountability just becomes "how does one person want to try and fuck you over and turn an entire region into their fiefdom today"

i have not posted in forever, but i thought about sharing some of the stuff i’ve been up to within the chaos. been working on some ambient music this year and have been having a great time with it. this one is In The Blood :v

oh thank god, decent interest but also i'm not immediately swamped in submissions—the possibility of having several hundred furries in my mentions was actually my biggest worry with soliciting interest. this seems like a manageable slow burn

i always feel so in over my head doing this stuff, but i suppose there's not really a way to get over that except by doing it. anyways i must not fear, fear is the mind killer. but also: it is scary to not know if you are about to be inundated by interest in something

this is not the thing i was going to announce (*that* should be forthcoming later today?) but a minimum viable zine format for my essays is finally done!! still iterating on it--am getting a friend to trial print it today--but in the near future you should be able to physically experience my work :)

Scribus layout for my essay zine

it seems problematic that we have no organized movement to sustain subcultural initiatives, and we're kind of just all playing it by ear when it seems plausible that a community institution will croak—someone should write about doing something about this...

i can't believe it but: finally, it looks like all 11 essays in what i'm calling my "zine" project are actually done!! (minus another round of editing) provisionally, i have them at 11,458 words—which is, uh, a lot. a lot more than i expected this to be when i started it. formatting will be fun...

i think my axiomatic belief about crime and prisons is simple: i believe punishment should be levied with the goal of ultimate betterment, not for its own sake. to hit people with a stick basically never makes them better, it just makes them superficially play along so you don't hit them again

i think a problem here is a lot of you want a justice system which induces catharsis rather than a justice system which strives for positive outcomes—and you fail to realize that justice in service of catharsis is usually deeply reactionary and conservative rather than constructive and progressive

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but socially and carcerally: i don't think the vast majority of people who are rapists will stop perpetrating harm if you totally socially marginalize them or throw them in a box for 30 years. any large-scale "harm reduction" in my mind requires changing our culture and system of justice

he raped her partner while she slept. What level of punishment would be appropriate for doing that?

i do find it interesting to mull what exactly a "restorative" approach to someone in the current, specific circumstances of Jacob Geller—a microcelebrity with a decent audience perpetrating one (leniently punished) act of sexual assault ten years ago—is, could, or would actually be in practice

now that we have clear corroboration that Geller was punished for *some* sexual misconduct through a document that has been publicly available since 2020, the way this was initially disclosed (almost certainly without the victim's consent, and definitely without care) is that much more infuriating

that Jacob Geller sexual assault allegation floating around looks pretty plausible even based on what little has been shared so far—but i really do not like that this allegation is seemingly being brought forward without the consent of (or, frankly, sensitivity for) the apparent victim

this is as nice as i can be about this subject: i need you to understand and recognize how absurdly fucked up it is to, in effect, believe that victims of sexual harm are allowed to be potentially revictimized by people around them on the utilitarian basis of marking somebody as a "potential danger"

Anthony Willroth (Anthony's Game Corner)@awillroth.bsky.social · last wk.

I don't think the victim has been named and tbh it's not the exclusive rights of a victim to decide when and if the world should know if somebody is a potential danger. You're missing the forest for the trees here.

It always was a shock entering the straight world of a car full of grim people sitting dumbly with suffering on their faces and in their bodies, and their minds in their prisons. . . — John Giorno, “You Got to Burn to Shine”
