Scotland’s going to be hearing a lot from me about apprenticeships, I think they’re crucial to the future and I’m proud one of my first acts as minister was to approve a 10% uplift, that’s £8.8MILLION of new money, to apprenticeships Scotland wide. We’ve a lot to do but we’re up to it.

Scotland’s new minister stakes out a pro‑Erasmus, pro‑EU mobility agenda
Barely 24 hours into the job, Scotland’s new minister for innovation, technology and tertiary education, Alyn Smith, used the EAIE conference in Glasgow to send a clear message to the international education sector that Scotland wants to be deeply plugged into European mobility and collaboration.

I'll be putting out a series of articles on my views coming into my new ministerial role about my priorities for Skills and Education in Scotland- what's working, what needs to change and why we're doing it. Here's the first in today's Scotsman. www.scotsman.com/news/opinion...
A qualification earned at 21 may be out of date by 35. Scottish education must change
The world of work is changing rapidly and so too must our approach to learning, writes tertiary education minister Alyn Smith

As students from all over Scotland and all over the world arrive in Stirling, as your MSP it’s great to have you here. Enjoy! #stirling #scotland #stirlinguniversity #forthvalleycollege
I would say this wouldn’t I, but the commitment across all three nations not just to independence from the UK but to EU membership is a significant driver of the need for change.
🤝 Leaders of Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales have signed memorandum on independence to work together. All nations should have a choice over their future.
Delighted to welcome thousands of folks to Stirling coming to Radio 2 in the park, enjoy! 🎵 🏴
Already a fascinating discussion at Royal Society of Edinburgh on understanding the 2026 Holyrood election with a great panel, struck as always what an incredible breadth of expertise Scotland has to call on 👏
Excited to be appointed, subject to Parliament’s approval, as Minister for Innovation, Technology and Tertiary Education in @johnswinney.bsky.social's government. Scotland has world class talent, but if we're not fit for the future then we’re game for fundamental change. news.stv.tv/politics/swi...

Serbia’s Justice Minister announces that genocidaire Ratko Mladic will be buried in the country with the highest state honors. It’s good that the Serbian government is doing this, so everyone can finally see the true, monstrous face of the Vucic regime. No illusions. www.klix.ba/vijesti/bih/...
Sramota koja se nikada neće oprati: Srbija će sahraniti zločinca Mladića uz najviše državne počasti

A brilliant meeting with Helen and Daniel from Town Break Dementia Support , a great organisation supporting a lot of folks across the Forth Valley. Delighted to support them and looking forward to hosting them in Parliament!
A challenging but very worthwhile visit with the Criminal Justice Committee to Low Moss Prison. There’s a lot of challenges within Criminal Justice but we were all struck by the professionalism and dedication of all staff, thanks to SPS and HMIPS for having us and sharing their experience.
Great chat in beautiful Balmaha hosted at the brilliant The Oak Tree Inn with the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park Destination Group, a range of vital hospitality businesses, major employers and crucial infrastructure in our rural areas.
Great chat with Megan Braithwaite and Catriona Melville from the National Lottery Heritage Fund on how to get more cash into developments in Stirling, some really exciting projects in the pipeline!
Very good contribution by @alynsmith.bsky.social to Scottish Parliament debate on reducing the #prison population. It shows real insight into the need to understand wider context, recognising health and welfare issues, and importance of the third sector in rehabilitation and community justice. 8/🧵
Great to see @yesforeu at Holyrood to mark the 10th anniversary of the EU referendum. A day to remember and focus on the future, the big prize is not yet won 🏴🇪🇺
Independence in Europe is the answer to all the problems Brexit has caused. In a thoughtful week I’m less interested in the past and more focussed on the future. We have the answer 🏴🇪🇺
Want to see *the world’s* oldest football? It lives right here in Stirling at the The Stirling Smith Art Gallery and is 540 years old! It’s also off to Miami to be part of the Scotland Brazil game at the FIFA FIFA World Cup! #Stirling #Scotland #VisitScotland #fifa #WorldCup
This morning scrolling Bluesky, there is nothing at all in my feed about Putin’s barbaric attack on the Ukraine’s holiest site, the UNESCO protected Lavra so I’m posting this here.
🎬 Scotland's Screen Sector is brilliant and Stirling is at the heart of it. Delighted to organise my first Members' Business Debate in Parliament on such a great growth industry and grateful for cross party support. fb.watch/HKrt6tIHDW/

My intervention in Parliament today calling for the full extent of the law to be applied to the dreadful illegal mob protests of the small number of individuals we saw in Glasgow last night. We all of us have a duty to our community to calm tensions, not exaggerate and inflame them.
If anyone ever needed a reminder to quietly delete your X account I think we’re past the point where you have any excuse.
My video message to the 🇮🇸 Icelandic European Movement’s Congress this weekend as Vice a President of the @euromovescotland.bsky.social European Movement 🏴 Scotland as they look towards their referendum on restarting EU talks in August. #scotland #independence #EU
My exchange today with FM John Swinney on domestic fuel oil. There’s no price cap on fuel oil, we’ve seen terrible rises across Stirlingshire and I’m concerned the market isn’t working. I’ve written to the CMA urging much more urgency on their ongoing investigation into the market.
A fantastic day in Stirling of community, heritage, music and fun. The Stirling Walking the Marches was a complete success here’s to next year!
