I don't have easy access to these tools any more but academic work is heavily metricated. For many it's a measure of worth which is why so many run after citations and publish the slightest thought. And the majority of papers have low or zero citations. Arday has a significant level of citations.

Will there be any accountability? The prob is was both right & left leaning news orgs & they’re circling the wagons. The lack of basic humanity & decency *after* the fact is perhaps what’s most depressing of all. Anyway, Jason’s piece is here: jasonstanleyantifascist.substack.com/p/it-sure-lo...

A professor writes: (Jason Stanley) The problem is that journalists failed to do basic journalism. Not a single reporter seems to have checked’ Jason Arday’s citations. The ‘quantifiable metrics’ of his work. Prof Stanley did: ‘Arday is easily comparable to the leading scholars in the field’

This article by the investigative journalist Carole Cadwalladr is really terrific. What each of us can do in the face of bullying and harassment counts for many aspects of life (and in academia as well as many other areas, I suspect). I urge you to read it and share it.

NEW: It was a digital lynching. And the media is never going to hold itself to account for the role it played in Jason Arday’s death. But there are things we can do. This is a practical guide based on my own experience. broligarchy.substack.com/p/a-digital-...

This Guardian’s leader sets out the public interest for why & how it covered this story. But up until the point that Cambridge reversed its decision on its own inquiry (& effectively threw Jason Arday to the mob), it fails the public interest test on the grounds that itself states. 1/

A front page picture caption in today's Guardian refers to "allegations of plagiarism, which he denied". Surely the Liverpool John Moore's inquiry found no evidence of plagiarism? The witch hunt continues...

"Culture wars aren’t a natural phenomenon. They’re shaped by bad actors with agendas like Nathan Cofnas and enabled by the affordances of the platforms where we consume our information. These don’t just find new audiences for old prejudices, they monetise them. This is the engine of the internet..."

Thank you to the Bluesky community who have carefully read & engaged with this piece. I’d also urge you to listen to the Professor Simon Baron-Cohen interview that I embedded. I can only include last 3 mins here but he gives precise chronology..including how he was cleared of plagiarism

"In my case...a misogynist witch hunt. In Arday’s case, a racist lynch mob. That’s not hyperbole. I have chosen those words carefully. ....Human behaviour is now expressed in the material and virtual worlds. ... They prompt real emotions, real consequences, real violence. It’s just bullying."

This could very well be the most important story in politics for the last decade and a half. Please read and share this equally harrowing and illuminating account by @carolecadwalla.bsky.social of just how dark the money in politics pit really goes. Absolutely mind blowing.

You really should read this. I'm not usually a huge fan of stories about stories, but this is more than that - a story of a real conspiracy, of those whose stated mission is to hold power to account silenced or cowed by that power until it's too big to ignore. Epic @carolecadwalla.bsky.social

If you’re wondering why UK press has suddenly woken up to Farage, please read this. It’s because: Brexit. The r/w press refused to scrutinise the money behind Farage & the lawsuit against me scared off the rest. But this isn’t a new scandal. It’s the same one I’ve been reporting on for a decade
