"When Sadie was sick, I used to do puzzles with her. Not with her, exactly. She was too tired to sit up or concentrate much" A piece full of so much poise and contemplation from @amaliag.bsky.social in @lit-namjooning.bsky.social
I have a story about keeping busy yet staying present in the lovely new Issue 3 of @lit-namjooning.bsky.social. Please check it out, and all the other wonderful pieces. I’m fortunate to be in such good company. literarynamjooning.wixsite.com/litnam/post/...
This is absurd. Trump is using YOUR taxpayer dollars to test for "abortions in the water." Seriously. This isn't about health care or science. This is about catering to anti-abortion extremists who are fighting to rip away reproductive rights and control women's bodies.
POLITICO Pro: Abortion opponents claim ‘tremendous victory’ as EPA tests water for abortion pills
The new study will test for trace amounts of chemicals, pesticides and drugs — including ones used to induce abortions — in drinking water in multiple cities.

today is the 3rd (!) anniversary of the publication of my novel OKPsyche. I'm so grateful for everyone who's read it and got something meaningful out of it. It's safe to say that this book changed my life. And, you know, if you want a weird book about trans motherhood: bookshop.org/p/books/okps...

When Sadie was sick, I used to do puzzles with her. Not with her, exactly. She was too tired to sit up or concentrate much, and the chemo gave her brain fog. But I’d do a puzzle on a card table beside...

National park emergency responders were diverted to Washington, D.C. to work on Trump's vanity projects right before flooding in the Grand Canyon killed two people and left 80 stranded. Trump only cares about enriching and building monuments to himself while the rest of us pay the price.
Before Deadly Floods, Trump Diverted Emergency Responders To Beautify D.C.
Trump reassigned 300 National Park Service emergency responders to golf course and reflecting-pool renovations before the Grand Canyon flooded.

This essay by Julia Serano (which I almost missed) nails it on all points.
I hate this timeline & that I had to write this essay. I hate AI companies & LLMs & the randos who are now using "AI detectors" (also AI!) to smear authors they dislike: on Medium (friend link): juliaserano.medium.com/on-em-dashes... & Substack (no paywall): juliaserano.substack.com/p/on-em-dash...

It would be very easy to use the Epstein Files as a wedge issue to pummel Trump and his supporters. Write up Articles of Impeachment for his violation of the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Then challenge every Member of Congress to state on the record if they are pro-pedophile or not.
Why not make your colleagues stand up and defend protecting a pedophile from prosecution? Why not make the Epstein Files cover up a wedge issue that smashes the fascist enablers? It's right there. It's a helluva weapon. You need to be stuck pretty deep in lethargy to *not* fire it.
Penguin Modern Classics (UK) has reissued my translation of Angélica Gorodischer's Trafalgar with a cool new cover. My copies just came in the mail today--and just in time for Women in Translation month.
Nearly 500,000 public comments have flooded in since the Trump administration proposed a rule that gives political appointees control over research funding. “The United States will not just fall behind. It will step aside,” one physicist wrote.
How Trump’s “America First” Administration Could Shut U.S. Scientists Out of the Next Nobel-Worthy Discovery
A proposed White House rule would give political appointees unprecedented control over scientific funding. One physicist, who helped discover the Higgs boson, explains how the rule would’ve stifled th...

"In the wake of blurring seasons and rotations of the sun, I had come back here, ages 15, 16, 17, now 19, always to the same place, always to repeat the same exercises of loneliness." Aidan Cahill's dispatch reflects on a nature trail that defined his youth. Link below!

He must be impeached and removed We cannot accept having a bloodthirsty dictator
ICE is murdering people because the Trump regime wants ICE to murder people. If the regime didn't want ICE to murder people, it would publicly crack down on ICE agents who murder people. But the regime doesn't. Because it wants ICE to murder people.
Sternly worded letters don't make headlines.
Ryan and Pelosi, now Jeffries and Johnson have de facto taken impeachment off the table. So there are no stakes. There can be no repercussions. Zero threat of consequences. So there is no drama. It's all boring. Of course the media won't cover it. Nobody's doing anything about it.
And they have it set for another cut for Snap and Medicaid and Medicare in December after the midterms !!!
The National Estimate is that well over 4,000,000 people have been denied or lost access to the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) across the United States because of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed into law by Trump. #4MillionMoreBlueVotes in the Midterm Elections !!
The fast growth of massive data centers has already upended races for local offices across the country, often uniting conservatives and liberals in revolting against projects in their midst. https://to.pbs.org/4bceOpJ
Democrats seize on AI data center backlash that's dividing rural Republicans in places like Texas
When Gina Hinojosa, the Democratic nominee for Texas governor, began her campaign last year, candidates weren't talking about — or hearing about — data centers that power artificial intelligence.
