I've been listening to the podcast Zero to Well Read and the latest episode is on Gone Girl. I'm reminded how profoundly enlightening that book was. Thrillers usually aren't my thing, but I remember it was so hyped that I read it anyway and it hit me squarely over the head when I needed that.

In 1895, Mark Twain was in the PNW, visiting all the major cities. His visit happened to coincide with a big smoke event. He quipped to a reporter in Tacoma, "Really, your scenery is wonderful. It is out of sight." www.jstor.org/stable/40732...

Catching up on Abbott Elementary and I am shocked at how wildly off base this homework episode is. Like, bro?
Disappointing that the Mariners have already lost the trade.
Why are all the most awful things about the 2000s coming back even worse now? I know things operate on 20 year cycles, but this needs to stop.
My husband is at the Mariners game and the kids are looking for him on tv. 10 year old: “I just saw Dad!” 8 year old, all excited: “You did?! Where?! Rewind!” 10: “Well, there were a lot of people wearing the hat he wears.” 😂
Just got some sort of emergency alert on my phone that was SO EXCRUCIATINGLY LOUD and the only way I could make the noise stop was to clear it and now I can’t see what it is, so that seems like a good system. Way to go everyone. Hope I’m not about to die.
Love when it’s hot and smoky because what do you do, take out the window ACs and hang out in the sweltering heat, or leave them in and run the air purifiers super high and hope you can still breathe? Uuuuugggghhhhhh.
The Mariners and a free agent left fielder coming off a decent year who will immediately have one of the worst seasons of his life, name a more iconic combo
I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to paint a room with two kids “helping”, but I feel like I deserve a new parenting badge 😂
Now that we know Alex Rodriguez is coming for the Top 50 Mariners ceremony, here's a look at the first time he returned to Seattle, after signing with Texas. I expect this return will be much less vociferous, but I'm honestly curious about how it's going to go!
The Hero Becomes the Villain: Alex Rodriguez Returns to Seattle
20 years ago today A-Rod made his return to Seattle after signing a record-breaking contract with the Texas Rangers. There used to be mad love between the player and the fans. Now, there was bad blood...

Fascinating! I mean, he obviously is in the Top 50. He's easily Top 10, if not Top 5. It's just...you know. Will be interesting to see how many boos he gets!
In a Seattle Sports exclusive, Alex Rodriguez told Brock & Salk that he will be at the #Mariners 50 Seasons Celebration when the top 50 players in team history are revealed this weekend, and he's excited for his story to come "full circle." sports.mynorthwest.com/mlb/seattle-...
Something I wish people would understand is that having smoke events actually is normal and SHOULD happen; no smoke when we were kids was not normal, and was the result of over 100 years of intense fire suppression that is making these events worse. There are other factors too, but smoke is normal!
If there's anything I've learned about the trade deadline through TRAUMA, it's that sometimes a while after it's over your team will announced they've traded two good prospects for a relief pitcher who sucks farts, and was sucking farts long before the trade, BUT THEY JUST HAD TO HAVE HIM!
feeling like queen charlotte popping open the newest lady whistledown while refreshing MLB trade rumors
BREAKING: I am acquiring leftovers from the fridge for lunch. Deal is pending microwavization.
Trying to sort through my notes on the Mariners in June 1996, and Scrivener refuses to acknowledge that "hamate" is a real word, which is annoying. The top suggestion is "ha mate", which feels like a rude response to someone who just broke their hamate bone.
I don't think anyone is actually watching this video, but it checks out that this is Taylor Saucedo's fault.
just woke up to the Jays are buying at the deadline and Pete Crow-Armstrong thinks Babe Ruth was made-up

Watching the AQI number going up, up, up Gonna be, gonna be smoky Ooohhhh
Are the Orioles just trading away everyone? I’m sorry, Orioles fans!
One of the benefits of the house reorganization is getting rid of stuff. You now what people like to get you when you have kids? Science kits! I’m sorry, but you can only do a baking soda volcano so many times. Tossing 4 science kits, which I feel bad about, but we haven’t used them in years!
I’m sorry, Boston Hunters, this is what happens when I decide to root for a sports team.
Wait, I want an Ayami Sato bobblehead! And I pretty much want no bobbleheads! (My fantasy baseball championship bobblehead aside because it’s a trophy that proves I know ball.)
Is there a reason the grass is so high on this field? Is it on purpose? Or is it just that mowing day is on Tuesday and you can’t mow more than that? #WPBL
Ugh, is the smoke moving in already? Sun looks weird outside.
I mean, look, at least it's not John Smoltz on this broadcast.
