Thursday in Kyiv. Another jet-powered drone attack. The fifth since midnight. I’ll write today. But first, groceries. Constant attacks on warehouses and logistics centres are being felt: temporary shortages of some products and slower deliveries. Still grateful for what we have.

Yesterday I sent a Sunday Letter. Its focus is that life goes on even between attacks. I described my visit to Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, where I saw treasures from the sacristy (where objects used in worship and other church treasures are kept).

The most unexpected reaction to On the Red Hill was the many people who wrote to thank me for having a bit of a rant about the month of August. It was like a secret club, we Augustphobics. I remember writing the final line here, and feeling a tingle of such joy at it. Feeling it again this morning!

This table is reserved for those who fought and died for Ukraine. Today is the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine. Cafes, bookstores, restaurants, you name it, reserve one Memory Table for them. The bookstore I visited today had one, too. 🌻

Morning in Kyiv is torn into pieces by drone attacks. Just like the night. I ground coffee beans for my filter coffee. russians use these tactics to wear down not only our air defence, but people too. No way. Warcoffee is ready.
