Wales has a new Secretary of State. But should that job even exist?
First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth has had his first call with new Prime Minister Andy Burnham:
New Sec of State for Wales. Stephen Kinnock has been appointed to replace Jo Stevens.
2.5 months after being elected, Reform Senedd Member James Evans announces he will not be standing again in 3 years and 9 months time... "As things stand today"
Spot on from @willhaycardiff.bsky.social in ‘Who Cares About Wales?’ I’d say you can extend the argument UK-wide. So many people in Government, HE, and wider society have lost sight of what Universities are and should be in a political-economy.
Reform are going after @willhaycardiff.bsky.social because he reports on their nonsense, and because he mocked their climate change denial.
The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Wales has accused Reform's Senedd group of attempting to intimidate journalists after it shared a covertly taken image on social media mocking a reporter while he was working ✍️Emily Price
@willhaycardiff.bsky.social reflecting on what Wales need to make devolution work properly. And drawing lessons for the (quite different) regional/city region ‘devolution deals’ on which Burnham is hanging the UK Labour govt’s hopes. Essential reading! www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
In Wales, I've seen what happens when devolution isn't done right. Here's what Andy Burnham must know | Will Hayward
In my country, devolution has been the equivalent of giving someone a new electric car without the capacity to charge it. That can’t be the model for the whole UK, says Guardian columnist Will Hayward

My latest Guardian piece. "We need to learn the lessons from the devolution that has gone before. To do anything less would be to squander one of those rare occasions when our arcane and tradition-filled political system seems open to change" www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Labour won't be supporting Plaid's budget today. They are calling on Plaid to withdraw it, make changes and bring it back in the summer. I understand the Greens plan to support the budget but without Labour support as well it will fail.

From @willhaycardiff.bsky.social ‘s newsletter: Cai Parry-Jones (29-30), Reform MS from Ynys Môn, owns shares worth £38K in Phillips 66, an American multinational energy company headquartered in Houston, Texas - 13 refineries, capacity to produce 2.2 million barrels of net crude oil per day. 😮
"Reform will literally have to go out and tell their supporters that they need them because their leader is at risk of losing to a bin." Another reason why that Clacton by-election was a massive mistake by Niggle, from @willhaycardiff.bsky.social willhaywardwales.substack.com/p/burnhams-p...
Burnham’s plan for Wales
Plus what does the Clacton by-election mean for Cymru?

Holy shit I can’t believe this happened. When I saw who we were up against I thought we had no chance. The team & I are both rather merry and so grateful we get to cover the country we call home. The biggest thanks goes to everyone who supports us. This would not exist if it wasn’t for you guys.
Nigel Farage stepping down to run as an MP again.
This is excellent analysis.

Great breakdown of the facts around asylum and the Nation of Sanctuary policy in Cymru from @willhaycardiff.bsky.social The right and far-right spread a lot of falsehoods about refugees and asylum seekers designed to mislead the public but their policies are rooted in prejudice, not reality

Hey England, you think rail electrification is bad there? Let’s talk about Wales, rail, and devolution… From @willhaycardiff.bsky.social’s ‘Who Cares About Wales’ www.ylolfa.com/cynnyrch/978...
The M62 corridor has incredible agglomeration potential. That's been spotted, correctly, going right back to John Prescott. But it needs taking seriously, hyping seriously, and while we're at it *the sodding train line needs to be electrified ffs*.
Watching London-centric politicians lose their minds at the suggestion of further devolution because "IT COSTS TOO MUCH" while they sit in a mouse-infested palace that is costing taxpayers £40bn to renovate. FYI - £40bn would cover the annual cost of the (expanded) Welsh Senedd for 390 years...
A little timeline cleanse for you. This is my tortoise Sleepy Gary. You shouldn’t really feed his species cucumber (even though they go mad for it). However when it’s super hot like this it’s a good way to keep them hydrated. So enjoy this video of a cucumber addicted reptile who
