Do you routinely discuss the risk of death as a complication of anaesthesia for your paediatric patients? Great Ormond Street have increased the rate of discussion of the risk of death from 4/138 (3%) in 2020 to 131/143 (92%) in their most recent audit. #AnSky #MedSky doi.org/10.1111/anae...
"We suggest that semaglutide-treated patients may present with residual solid gastric contents despite fasting and the withholding of one dose, and that gastric ultrasound can help individualise peri-operative management where this is available." #AnSky #MedSky #GLP1 doi.org/10.1111/anae...
Use of cat litter for denaturing high volumes of discarded medications: a cost-saving approach from veterinary medicine #AnSky #MedSky doi.org/10.1111/anae...
Have you considered using cat litter to discard your liquid medications like propofol? #AnSky #MedSky doi.org/10.1111/anae...
This study shows that TIVA and inhalational anaesthesia are economically equivalent, with differences in costs and QALYs small, statistically non-significant and clinically negligible. #AnSky #MedSky doi.org/10.1111/anae...
Postoperative anaemia and long-term survival following cardiac surgery: a multicentre, retrospective, observational study #AnSky #MedSky #anaemia doi.org/10.1111/anae...

Total intravenous and inhalational anaesthesia show comparable cost-effectiveness Anaesthetic choice should continue to be guided by: • patient factors • clinician expertise • organisational context #AnSky #MedSky doi.org/10.1111/anae...
Me too. Lights, gas machines, computers. Plug in rechargeable pumps. I think it’s part of that “Dad manages the thermostat” thing.
If I was in the hospital at night I used to go around turning off lights and computers.
The ‘Great Theatre Turn-off’: what do we need to do? Attention should also be focused on operational waste, including the systems and infrastructure of our hospitals. #AnSky #MedSky doi.org/10.1111/anae...
Multicentre audit of the efficiency of hospital-wide central vacuum systems #AnSky #MedSky doi.org/10.1111/anae...
Optimal intrathecal morphine dosing for revision hip arthroplasty: an observational study #AnSky #MedSky doi.org/10.1111/anae...
Vacuum suction is a critical clinical tool. This audit shows that centralised vacuum systems are environmentally & financially unsustainable in low-acuity hospital wards & could be replaced by on-demand units. #MedSky #AnSky doi.org/10.1111/anae...
What drugs and doses were used for emergency tracheal intubation outside the operating theatre? #AnSky #MedSky #ICUSky doi.org/10.1111/anae...
Non-operating theatre emergency tracheal intubation: • High rates of post-induction hypotension • Propofol was the most used induction drug, often at elective anaesthesia doses • Pre-emptive vasopressor use was inconsistent #AnSky #MedSky # doi.org/10.1111/anae...
Retraction of untrustworthy research is common in anaesthetic publications but retraction of an article does not always stop its citation. At baseline 3/20 anaesthetic journals included recommendations to check references for retractions. 12 months later, 5/20 did. #AnSky doi.org/10.1111/anae...
Sugammadex interference with serum progesterone measurement: an in-vitro study "Laboratories should recognise sugammadex as a potential source of immunoassay interference when interpreting progesterone results." #AnSky #MedSky doi.org/10.1111/anae...
C’mon guys! Argh! Ya just gotta click on the link! It’s SO easy! 😂
There are articles?
This is a conversation our specialty needs to have. The indications for AFOI have massively decreased as proficiency with VL has increased. Even when performed well AFOI is less pleasant than asleep intubation so hard to justify performing to train or maintain skills.
Awake tracheal intubation as a high-acuity, low-occurrence event: is widespread videolaryngoscopy to blame? #AnSky #MedSky doi.org/10.1111/anae...
Only 23% of respondents said the frequency of their awake tracheal intubations DIDN'T change after the widespread use of videolaryngoscopy. 77% think that the guidelines should be re-evaluated considering the more widespread use of VL. #AnSky #AirwaySky #MedSky doi.org/10.1111/anae...
Chronic pain While 'holistic, composite or patient-centred' assessment is increasingly described, outcomes remain dominated by pain intensity/physical function (94%/58%) Social, work-related, economic and sleep outcomes remain under-reported (< 10%). #PainSky #AnSky doi.org/10.1111/anae...
One predictor of difficult ventilation=ATI in 10% well that’s just not plausible imho. Who were you asking?!
Which is your decisional trigger for awake tracheal intubation? Which device do you usually choose for awake tracheal intubation? #AnSky #AirwaySky #MedSky doi.org/10.1111/anae...
I’m surprised VL is only 40 odd per cent for decline in ATI. Definitely rare at my tertiary institution…
There is a risk that awake tracheal intubation is becoming increasingly viewed as a 'high acuity, low occurrence' (HALO) event. This is likely due to a self-reinforcing cycle of reduced awareness of indications and guidelines + reduced exposure and practice + VL. #AnSky doi.org/10.1111/anae...
Hang on a minute. The way I read this, the letter's authors' seem to be claiming that because the emission of desflurane is decreasing that therefore it's OK to keep emitting more desflurane. The climate cost of emitting more desflurane today is unrelated to previous emissions.
