Old bag. Still, at least I can now get a ‘flu jab. Plagued by impending sense of doom and a small haughty cat called Daphne Whitethighs.

Nice visit from a family friend. Told me about his grandad who bred prize-winning Herdwick sheep in the Lake District. On his deathbed, he asked his family to bring his champion ram up the stairs to his bedroom so that he could bid him one last farewell.

Last week the posy I brought home from the garden had a chrysalis attached though I didn't notice till I got home. If you, like me, haven't watched a butterfly emerge you won't be prepared for how amazing or how long emergence takes #TinyJoys a 🧵

Photo of a small posy of sweet peas and snap dragons with a painted lady chrysalis hanging from one blossom. The chrysalis is pale with gold flecks

I’ve become mildly fixated with this dancer. He usually starts off looking completely pissed off, blowing his nose, having a cigarette etc and then, the moment the music starts, switches in a flash into performance mode. His dancing is exquisite. youtube.com/shorts/c6hKy...

I quite enjoyed The Odyssey but it says something that in the midst of all the carnage, loss and sorrow, the audience only cried when Argus died. Did anyone here ever sing “Argus was a puppy” at infant school? An early introduction to Homer!

I nearly killed a child today. Two little boys were riding their scooters along a path with their parents about 50 yards behind. The littlest boy- about 3- suddenly shot into the road in front of me. I slammed my brakes on - luckily only going at about 15mph- and no harm done. Father trotted up….

Clearing a cupboard, found my dad’s birthday certificate which led me to find the building the top floor of which was his first home. Feel so sorry for my granny. She was 18, married for the sake of respectability but ‘abandoned’ before dad was born. Worked so hard to keep things going including…

A scruffy building above an off licence on Kentish Town Road just by the railway. There is a mural on the side saying Welcome to Kentish Town. It doesn’t look very welcoming!

Scrolling through old pictures and being reminded of the time when one of my novels was an A/S Level set text and I vanity-searched Twitter to see what students were saying about it, and got a warm glow at the thought that I was inspiring a whole new generation of readers.

Old tweet in which a school student wrote that 'My literature teacher can shove the Rotters' Club up her arse'.
