I’ve been greeting everyone on the route today with “Happy Bastille Day!” When I get a bewildered look, I just say, “You didn’t know it was Bastille Day? Well, it’s nothing to lose your head over.”

Although I cannot find a citation for it anywhere, I remember former Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox saying that in any baseball season, you will win 40, and you will lose 40. It is what you do with the other 82.

The latest acquisition for my “teams that no longer exist” collection. The Athletics still exist, of course, but they’re no longer the Oakland A’s. Right now they’re just “the Athletics” with no city designation and playing two more seasons in Sacramento before moving to Las Vegas in 2028.

GOOD NEWS from my neck of the woods. The Mississippi Museum of Art has bought the Hughes House, also known as Fountainhead. It is a Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian with a parallelogram design. They plan to do restoration work on it and open it for tours. It is about a mile and a half from our house.
