Today is the day. Big Guns Stupid Rednecks collection is here and in shops. Took over ten years, 3 different publishers, different artists, and a lot of being told this wouldn’t happen to get here. Headed to Daydreams in Iowa City this afternoon to sign. If I’m honest I’m going to cry today.

Old Russian joke: Guy shows up at newsstand every day, looks things over then leaves without a word. After a week of this the owner asks what guy is looking for. Guy says he's just checking the obituaries. Owner says those are in the back of the paper! Guy replies, "Not the one I'm looking for."

I collect "Bad Byrne" stories like a hobo collects empty pint bottles. I cannot get enough of Ol' John's arrogant antics. That said, since it is the man's birthday, here are two true stories from the time I met him at a con in OKC in... '81 or '82. First, he awarded me a No-Prize at his panel.

The film adaptation of 1776 is on TCM this morning. It does not tell the whole truth, but it tells a helluva lot more of it than I was ever taught in school. The songs are fantastic and the cast is absolute perfection, especially the great Howard da Silva. Check it out!

In 1966, with his four year run on the Ben Casey strip coming to an end (the show had been cancelled), Neal Adams was throwing everything he had at the work to stay engaged (and to build his portfolio, I would imagine). Changing comics forever would begin for Neal a year later.
There is no place for the death penalty in a system that applies it so unfairly based on race and wealth.

One of the great things about writing period fiction is that no one ever starts a sentence with "So... " or "Yeah, no."
My Mike Grell commission. When I purchased this at the old Chicago Comicon I was trying to become a professional inker. Thus, I inked the original. Not an ideal choice by me, all things considered, but tackling pencils by respected pros taught me a lot. And, I don't think I did a terrible job.
