The Right to Repair Directive: what changes on 31 July?

The EU's R2R Directive was a big win for our campaign. By 31 July 2026, all EU Member States are required to transpose the Directive into national law. But what does the reality look like?

A thing to remember in your innovation efforts: 👉 Data without human insight will produce generic solutions that lack impact for your problem and context. 🧠 How might you bring more human insight into your problem-solving projects?

Sustainability is good for business: 80 % of consumers are willing to pay more for sustainable produced or sourced goods —PwC 74 % of companies agreed that sustainability investments provide competitive advantage —Natwest’s Future Fit programmes

What if…“good design" (and corresponding awards) are no longer just about aesthetics. What if…we update old principles, we changed our common perspective: from aesthetics → effect from object → system from market → shared environment Let’s get going. ✌️

„There should be no special category called 'sustainable design'. It might be simpler to assume designers will try to reshape their values & work, so that all design is based on humility, combines objective aspects of climate and the eco use of materials with subjective intuitive processes. —Papanek

Tech skills are powerful. When we apply them without asking who benefits and what it costs, we still make a choice. I chose to work with organisations building products and services for a sustainable and regenerative future. Not as a sacrifice -but as a way to stay in tech and sleep well at night.

"If we do a great job, whose life do we improve and how?" is the most critical question a UX professional can answer about their work. Far too many UX folks have no idea how to answer this about their current work. They're lost in a world of "improving the product" and not the people they serve.
