Important topic that doesn't get the attention it deserves. What exactly is causing these massive wildfires and floods? Scientists say burning fossil fuels is the number-one contributor to climate change. That should be in every news story about these disasters.

I spoke with @cnbc.com, Indias largest business channel how the #fossilfuel industry laid the tinder for the horrific #EuropeanWildfires.

“Paris has embarked on a grand transformation, planting 155k trees, adding hundreds of kms of bike lanes, pedestrianising 300 school streets and banning cars from the banks of the Seine. Parking has been turned into green space…Fewer parents fear their child being run over when they walk to school.”

How Paris swapped cars for bikes – and transformed its streets

Under Anne Hidalgo – mayor for 12 years until last week – the French capital added bike lanes, cut traffic and reclaimed public space, but not without resistance

🚨 We are wildly unprepared for this years climate fuelled #ElNiño! For context, the gap between the strongest and the fifth strongest El Niño of the past 150 years is only about 0.5C - this one is 0.8C hotter than the record until this day.

A new horrific total: #Europe suffered over 10.000 excess deaths during its record-breaking #heatwave. 9,000+ of the 10650 excess deaths (roughly 85%) were among people aged 65+, showing how vulnerable elderly are to extreeme heat. The heatwave would have been impossible without #climatechange.

Amid the record-breaking heat over the last few weeks, a culture war has broken out over the rollout of air conditioning But lots of the claims are missing some key bits of context - not least that it hasn’t really been an issue in northern Europe previously, because it just hasn’t been this hot

Our new @350.org analysis in @euronews.com: Electricity bills soar 700 million during the #heatwave - these #climate heatwaves are not only dreadful, at times tragic and deadly but also immensely costly for people and businesses already strained by an ongoing #fossilfuel crisis.

🚨 BREAKING: Huge #climate win in the courts of France against #TotalEnergies: Total argued that emissions were someone else’s problem. The court found that Total failed to meet its climate duty, gave 6 months to update its plan to describe + prevent the climate risks of the #fossilfuels it sells.
