For years, people have been saying that utilities should take the lead on distributed energy -- actually procure it, deliberately, where on the grid it is needed. Now Excel Energy in Minnesota is about to actually do it! Will 200 MW of distributed batteries.

During the Cold War, the US poured support into Arctic military outposts and climate research amid fears of a Russian invasion. Climate change is still on the military’s radar as a threat multiplier.

To put this in language that Gavin Newsom can understand: either he can snatch away two Congressional seats from Texas and Florida Republicans to dangle in front of various factions of the CA Dems with a stroke of a pen, or he can choose not to do that and lose two of his closest allies in Congress.

Want to reduce electricity bills 20% by 2030? Release the data! We have over 37GW of batteries, water heaters, etc that can participate in demand flexibilty. But without data access they can't bid into the PJM/MISO capacity auction to bring down costs.

Little did we know that Utilities using rickety Oracle and SAP systems would create a crisis. 🧵

One in five Californians spend more than half their income on housing. Not having enough homes to buy or rent creates cutthroat competition and drives up prices. The solution is to allow a mix of homes of all sizes and prices, including apartments near transit, which would be allowed under SB 79.

7. The most banal thing you can say about NYC, but so true: the diversity -- of races, ethnicities, hair & dress, attitude, gender presentation, behavior -- is just spectacular. I guess this is precisely what scares conservatives about cities, but it fills me with energy & life. Cities, man!

The court rejected that request and didn’t issue its immunity decision until July 2024. Trump’s federal cases never made it to trial before the November 2024 election.
