Watching The Odyssey as Nolan intended: as an AI-upscaled camcorder recording with line-in audio from the theater seat, burned-in Spanish subtitles, and moving blurred patches to hide the forensic digital watermarks.

Framegrab from pirated copy of The Odyssey. Spanish subtitles are barely visible under the video filename. A big rectangle of the top of the screen is blurry.

I wrote about how I discovered that a new site for The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, John Koenig's long-running Tumblr project-turned-book, was a bootleg made by a marketing agency. They published the complete book verbatim, then added AI-generated art and new AI words, entirely without permission.

Without permission, a marketing agency republished the entirety of John Koenig's Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows book, replacing its art with AI slop and adding new AI words. Their unauthorized site now ranks higher than the real one everywhere.

I also wrote in this post about something I noticed in my inbox lately: a bunch of polished single-serving sites with italic serif fonts with red accents and tiny all-caps monospaced fonts on a cream background, all from different people who I'm not entirely sure know who I am.

A collage of screenshots of different webpages with cream-colored background, serif fonts w/red italic accents, and monotype all-caps headings, all hallmarks of Claude's vibecoded default style

For the fourth time, nominations for this year's Tiny Awards celebrating the "best of the small, poetic, creative, handmade web" are open. https://waxy.org/2026/06/tiny-awards-2026-nominees-are-open

All these years later, it still feels good to hear people I respect say nice things about the work we did. We tried really, really hard to do things differently and make each festival better than the last.

I will never forget @xoxofest.com, despite only attending once. The vibes were unlike anything, and if anything, it's exactly what US games events miss in 2026. XOXO was focused, it had soul, it was challenging and playful - it was the polar opposite of the giant smooth mega-events games has now.

The surprise at the end of Cabel's talk was a personal highlight of 12 years of running XOXO, a secret quietly hiding on stage for the entire festival. Nobody knew what was coming but @cabel.panic.com, @andymcmillan.com, me, and venue/event staff. It was a surprise even to all the other speakers.

over a year ago, i gave a talk at the xoxo conference about a mural, a mcdonald’s, and a man. (but it was also secretly about life, and legacy, and meaning.) finally, i’m blogging the full story, with behind-the-scenes details, and a video of the talk. enjoy. cabel.com/wes-cook-and...

online reviews of every skilled nursing facility: ★★★★★ this place saved my mom’s life, thanks to Esmerelda for being a second mother to me ☠️ this place killed my dad, the staff made him sleep in his own feces and beat him nightly, it should be shut down by the health dept and burned to the ground

This has been the most stressful two weeks of my life, and lemme tell you, looking at the internet has not exactly helped lower my blood pressure.
