51/22 last night. Three new for the garden. I'm pretty happy we got our first Vestal, Rhodometra sacraria. Also Straw underwing, Thalpophila matura and Clancy's rustic, Caradrina kadenii which I think is a rather dapper looking moth. #teammoth

During my walk yesterday along the ridgeway I came across some Clouded Yellow, Colias croceus. Mainly rather far away. But this one decided to kindly pose for me on some Field bindweed, Convolvulus arvensis.
Oh dear. I found myself without the children and wife again. I'd best start my birthday early 😂
I took a 15km hike around the Uffington white horse today. It included Uffington castle, Weyland smithy long barrow, the ridgeway and the pub. A rare day without children. Lots of nature seen too. I'll post the nature later. But here is the prehistory, views and pint.
My parents-in-law have a large colony of Ivy Bees, Colletes hederae in the front garden. A joy to watch.
My eagle-eyed son found this whole Linnet, Linaria cannabina today. He is very proud and can't wait to get it in his extensive feather book.
A fantastic time at Holbrook creek, Suffolk looking for pirate treasure with the 7 and 3 yo. We didn't find any but we did find Moon jellyfish, Aurelia aurita bird foot prints and a middle Saxon fish trap

173/51 Last night in the trap. A few NFG. Delplanqueia dilutella (although I'm inland. Happy to be corrected). Cypress pug, Gem, Iron prominent, Cydia amplana and C. fagiglandana. A good night. More tonight as I'm trapping again. #teammoth
Well, as a family, we managed to see it. Despite the 3 yo wanting to play in the playground and needing a number two at the moment of maximum cover. 🤣
My eldest has been busy collecting feathers whilst in the Nederlands on holiday. Buzzard, Great spotted woodpecker, Great tit, Song thrush, Chaffinch, Jay, Blue tit, Dunnock and my personal favourite Hawfinch inner primary. (Also some from Amsterdam zoo... ssshhh. Griffin vulture)

Fen nettle, Urtica dioica subsp. galeopsifolia lining the dijk near Hilversum, Nederlands. I can confirm that I had enough bottle to see if it stung... It did not.

88 of 38 I last night's trap. 16 of them being Small Mottled Willow, Spodoptera exigua. Some nice moths turned up. Lime-speck pug, Eupithecia centaureata. Evergestis forficalis E. limbata. #teammoth

Last nights Buck moon played a large part to the contents of the trap this morning. Just 13 species. Apple Leaf Miner, Lyonetia clerkella. Bucculatrix thoracella. Square-spot Rustic, Xestia xanthographa and Silver Y, Autographa gamma #teammoth
My son has become Dragonfly and Damselfly obsessed after watching an episode of Steve Backshall. So a trip to Thursley NNR was in order.
