I am excited to welcome #Botany2025 to my big backyard in the California desert. I kicked off the conference with a field trip up the Palm Springs tramway to explore the beautiful flora of the San Jacinto Mountains. I hope everyone enjoys Palm Springs!

“For example, if a $50,000 student loan balance is discharged, and the balance is taxed at an effective rate of 25%, that could result in a tax bill of over $12,000, due all at once. This could be particularly problematic for medically disabled borrowers…given their inability to work.”

In April sometime in the 90’s, I saw an ad for jello beans. I asked my mom probably 20 times to buy however many jello boxes it took to get a jello bean mold (am very prone to advertising). I’ve been moving this heirloom everywhere for like 25 years. Kids asked for jello yesterday. It is time.

Picture of NSF memo that reads: Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Memorandum M-25-13, issued on January 27, 2025, directs all Federal agencies to conduct a comprehensive review of their financial assistance programs to determine programs, projects, and activities that may be implicated by the recent Executive Orders. Therefore, all review panels, new awards, and all payments of funds under open awards will be paused as the agency conducts the required reviews and analysis. NSF has created an executive order implementation webpage to ensure the widest dissemination of information and updates. We will continue to communicate with you as we receive additional guidance.

In particular, this may include, but is not limited to conferences, trainings, workshops, considerations for staffing and participant selection, and any other grant activity that uses or promotes the use of DEIA principles and frameworks or violates Federal anti-discrimination laws.
