Great article from Katie Hims about the importance of BBC audio drama, now under threat. In addition Radio 4 are commissioning more serials in the few remaining slots so fewer opportunities and only for 'experienced writers'. How do you get experience if there's no space for you?

Be the biggest cheerleader of the show. It's about the showrunner. Think out the pitch; bullet point it. You are an investment. Your pitch doesn't have to be touchdown. Sometime it's the timing, not the idea. Play to your strength, but you have to evolve. Find other/grow strengths. Once you put the show first, you stop thinking about yourself. Don't work from a scared place. Work twice as hard. Do your homework. Be positive. Don't join in on the snarkiness. Keep track of the changes. Then apply on the board. Be open to change. Let things go. Staff superpower: see the story from a completely different way. Don't get hung up on the details. Think about the filmmaking. Always have solutions. Don't be scared to ask for advice. Do you homework: study the showrunner. At the least, your script should LOOK right. Modulate your notes on scripts. Focus on the small ones. It's not your job to fix the big stuff [as the staff writer].
