I started learning English in 3rd grade. Was in ESL classes for two years. In 6th grade, my homeroom teacher gave me the first book in the Redwall series. I had never read anything longer than a Goosebumps or The Boxcar Children by that point, so I was doubtful I could read something so dense...
Jane Espenson@janeespenson.bsky.social · 3w agoThe idea that a book could be considered inapprop for kids because it's "too difficult" doesn't sit well with me. Let 'em try. If it's too hard, they'll put it down. But give them a chance to rise to the challenge.

Reading books (or scripts) as a writer is just constantly oscillating between "I can do this!" and "Wow I'll never be able to write like this I should just give up".
Been in a big fantasy mood lately and I'm really enjoying THE WILL OF THE MANY. So pleased the second book is already out (and it's somehow even longer than the first?!).
I'm back! Happy to have finally put a big deadline behind us. Up next: revising a TV series pitch that's been woefully neglected. I also *should* finish the horror short story I started... but a new horror idea has taken hold of me and I fear I must respond to its call...
