My issue with writers using Yoruba cosmology for fuel is that it is treated fantasy and speculative fiction and not as reality. Yoruba and Africa as an extension are treated as myths, as stuff of the past, as silent subjects. This is the consequence of being socialized in the imperial core.
Essential reading right here! This is such a thoughtful and nuanced piece. As someone who writes fantasy *inspired by* elements of Yoruba culture, so much of this resonates. (More thoughts below…)

But this blog ain't bout none of that. Instead, I tackle another related controversy about the joys, rewards, perils, and pitfalls of writing African-inspired fantasy.
So, people threw their hands up because "why bother"? Or as one person put it, "I can't go [do something fun], but I gotta go to work?!" And, this is why we cannot let the fight against AI become a lifestyle battle, it has to be a systemic one. We're gonna lose lifestyle battles, every time.
Anyway. Just needed to remind the people ahead of the nihilism of the next election news cycle. Everything counts. Move accordingly.
That's all organizing is: collecting the people's ability to create change in order to create EVEN MOAR change. This means that everything counts. Every action, every mutual aid penny, every canvasing effort. Even you. YOU count.
