Yes in real life mental illness can take up alot of space in someones life and bleed into just about everything about them, your writing a story, the mental illness of the villain should not be a plot point. Mental illness is often invisible, the less you show the better.
You can write villains with mental disorders, definitely ponder for a really long time if you SHOULD but i digress. The mental disorder shouldnt be the reason they are the villain, or a modivating factor for that character. The mental illness should not be central to the character...
