Political reasons for tenure denials are a violation of faculty governance and academic freedom The best part? The president (Jim Davis) is himself not an academic, and got tenure not as a result of a formal review, but pro forma from the Board of Regents as part of his hiring contract

UT President interfering with faculty tenure. Just the latest egregious example of administrator overreach and political capitulation. Non-paywall follows.

Some things to note about Putin's potential plans in Poland: a) there have been several attacks on infrastructure/ incursions, and both Poland and NATO kept their cool b) if Putin is smart, he'll stick with a plausibly deniable bigger attack on infrastructure: that's a gray area for NATO

Tusk warns 'critical months' ahead for Poland in face of Russian threat

Tusk says Poland is preparing for "various" scenarios after media reports of a planned Russian attack.

I mean, suborning science by politics usually works out well. Just ask the beneficiaries of Lysenkoism and anti-sparrow campaigns, the forced study of dialectical materialism and scientific Marxism, Soviet psychiatry, or late-communist era blood transfusions.

From me, now expanded into a Cato post, on OMB's proposal to centralize grantmaking and research funding authority and require that all discretionary grants "demonstrably advance the president’s policy priorities” and not "promote anti-American values.”

The replies to this post nicely support the OP's point. If you find a post wrong, why not counter it with evidence, logic, reason, etc instead of hiding behind pseudonyms and resorting to pathetic name-calling? Surely these intellectual giants are capable of a counter-argument?

A lot of people left X for Bluesky because of the tone of the discourse there (I wasn't one of them, as it happens). But do be aware that angry lefties aren't above personal insults. If your answer is "oh but you said something I disagree with online", it might be worth rethinking a few things.
