If you saw our new paper and thought "I didn't know aquatic plants use CAM!" boy do we have a fun project for you! Our lab is developing high throughput methods to screen plants for CAM. Do you work on, or know of, a plant that you think could be using CAM? Let us know! 👉 forms.gle/AyQc5KgzEYoM...

Are your plants CAM suspicious?

Have you ever wondered if the plants you work on are... living a double life working the nightshift? We are too. Our lab is looking to identify and screen more plants for CAM activity. We are beginnin...

New lab paper, led by @ellliieee.bsky.social with assist from @wickellomics.bsky.social, other lab members, and folks at @li-corenv.bsky.social - how do we study photosynthesis in aquatic plants? Turns out it's pretty hard! Part review, part methods paper. Check it out! doi.org/10.1002/aps3...

More awards through GRFP this year! Yay!! Quick back of envelope comparison of awards by category to 2024 (skipping 2025 b/c it was weird): Life sci: 486/2599 18.5% ('26) 499/2036 25% ('24) ☹️ Eng: 914/2599 35% ('26) 532/2036 26% ('24) Comp sci: 261/2599 10% ('26) 151/2036 7% ('24) 🧪

AI can't pay my grad students or postdocs. AI can't do our experiments, collect really any of our data, make our lab reagents, fix our broken machines as they age. I'm just so, so tired of this.

Today's accomplishment: needed to convert HOMER motif files to MEME motif files, wrote a script to do it and put it on GitHub for everyone doing motif-y things to use! Find it here: github.com/achpardo/hom... and let me know how it works for you!

#PAG33 friends, go check out postdoc in the lab Anna Pardo's talk on Monday at 4:20pm in the Plant Gene Expression Analysis Workshop. She's talking about a huge time course RNA-seq dataset from a homoploid Yucca hybrid that uses both C3 + CAM photosynthesis! @annapardo-phd.bsky.social Yucca tax:

Heading to #PAG33 to present 'regulation of environment responses' in 'Plant Epigenetics for Crop Improvement' session on Mon, 01/12. Shout-out to Yuvraj & Minnie for driving comparative genomics, epigenomics & single-cell work! We are also looking for a postdoc to join our group! Details below 👇

My favorite bit of science writing advice is "Assume your audience is smart but doesn't have the vocabulary yet." I've had a ton of success with this approach! And when you treat people like they're smart but just need some definitions they often feel empowered to ask really interesting questions

You've probably heard how a high percentage of #Nobel laureates are immigrants. The US in particular has benefited from the influx of bright minds. @jennaahart.bsky.social ran the data for this century's Nobel prizewinners — and shows more than 30% immigrated. 🧪 www.nature.com/articles/d41...

The most common destination for eventual Nobel laureates in physics, chemistry and medicine since 2000 is the United States, Nature has found.

Are you organizing a talk session at PAG 33? I would love to speak about my postdoc work on the genomics of variable facultative CAM photosynthesis in a hybrid Yucca species! Possible workshop topics include: hybrid genomics, abiotic stress, non-model species. Please DM me if you're interested!
