what if his main form was innocence + his personality was genuinely charismatic so he made sense as a cult leader. why does the manifestation of light as stagnation, and cruelty as righteousness, check every box for ugliness as morality? boringggg

innocence's design could've been really cool narratively if vauthry wasn't a horrific fatphobic caricature + the shb cast had "ugly" main characters. alas. bigotry blinds people to good storytelling yet again

One example of the kind of problems a firm timeline could cause is with something like Ishgard Restoration. Came out with ShB, but is now unlockable at 3.3. Players who came in before ShB experience it as happening two full expacs after the end of the war,

FFXIV's Time Bubble is a perfectly fine creative decision for an ongoing MMO. It spares the dev team a LOT of headache (I think people underestimate just how much) and allows them to focus on the important parts of storytelling,

i would go a step further and argue that maybe video games (et al.) shouldn't go out of their way to explain every little detail about how the setting works. fandom will do what it wants regardless and this just creates more opportunities for people to be like, "wait this is inconsistent with xyz"

I think the Time Bubble is fine actually. I think people mistake it for "every expansion literally takes place in the same year and you have to believe that" when it's more like "we're not going to acknowledge any specifics about the passage of time beyond a vague sequence that events happen in."
