They knew from the 60s, the heat we are experiencing, was coming. They paid politicians to not talk about it, created greenwashing campaigns, to guilt trip people, into believing drinking from a paper straw, would be a way to cool down the planet. The world is fucked, because humans are stupid

BP's quarterly profits have more than doubled to £4.27bn as the Iran war sent oil prices soaring. Last week, Shell also reported profits twice as high as this time last year. As deadly heatwaves sweep across Europe, the companies driving climate breakdown are cashing in.

Just another casual reminder that you’re being laughed at by corporates because a) governments facilitate them and b) we don’t push back. Cost of living crisis, for you not for them.

#SaveJodrellBank It's been announced that Jodrell Bank Observatory, which houses the UK's largest telescope, will lose it's government funding and could close. This would be absolutely devastating for the 3000 scientists who use it in their work. It will save just £2.8m a year. 1/2

Had just the best time at Bath Flash Fiction Festival. Awesome to chat to so many of my flash heroes, the flash community is so kind and welcoming. Home with an armful of books, a head full of ideas and a heart full of joy ❤️

No science fiction could have prepared us for just how stupid the end of the world can be. "The environment was on the brink of collapse, and so, rather than deal with that, we burned what fuel we had left getting computers to scam each other for money."

“We need an Ozempic for cars. They are growing at a phenomenal rate, wreaking havoc on roads, squeezing out smaller vehicles and endangering pedestrians. Like ever-hungry teenagers, cars in Europe are growing on average a centimetre wider every year.” Don’t repeat North America’s mistake, Europe.

Larger vehicles crowd our roads and are far more dangerous to pedestrians. Let’s curb them before they do even more damage, says says transport commentator Christian Wolmar

SUVs are higher at the front and three times more likely to kill a child when they hit them. SUV drivers drag the child under their vehicle, and then they crush the child to death. It's incredible that SUVs don't have higher tax, and why not lower speed limits. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

"All nineteen of us are torso-tense, muscle-sprung, feeling-not-seeing Mackenzie tuck her back so we can launch her high in a basket toss" Love how this flash from @katehorsleywriter.bsky.social reflects both the specific and the universal; and great evocation of character and group

The world is on fire so no, you don’t need to circle around the parking lot for 10 min to find the closest spot. You also don’t need to leave your car on for 30 min and contribute to the same heat you are trying to avoid.
