(2/2) Respondents slightly preferred positive contexts ‘I was only delighted’ to negative ones ‘I was only livid’. Also the structure ‘who comes along, only Joe’ was thought to sound typically Irish. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this. I’m only delighted with the results 🙏😊
@anteangaeile.bsky.social · 4mo agoThank you so very much who responded to the survey on ‘only’ in Irish English🙏 A majority of respondents felt that ‘she is only gorgeous’ sounded typically Irish, was more likely to be uttered by older than younger speakers, more likely female, slightly more likely urban than rural (1/2)

Hi everyone, I'm currently researching how second-generation migrant young adults - those born in Ireland to at least one migrant parent - experience identity and belonging. I'm especially interested in what 'home' means to them and how they negotiate Irish and local identity. 1/2
