I'm a Fifer. I love the following: FILMS! (Scottish, Irish, documentary, short films, horror, cult movies) MUSIC! (Everything from traditional folk to electronic weirdness) THEATRE! (Especially Scottish and Irish) BOOKS! HAGGIS! Letterboxd: GhostOfTheRegal

I've long been fascinated by this chest from the Darien scheme in the National Museum of Scotland. If I had to pick one item from the collection that summed up Scotland, I think this might be it.

Large, very old, empty wooden chest with a ridiculously complex locking mechanism inside the lid

If you're anywhere near the great city of Dunfermline on Sunday 6th September you can have a Scottish-themed film double bill of the best film of 2025 followed by a bunch of Scottish short films, as part of the Outwith festival.

Since it's been restored and is now on BFI Player, I'm revisiting Toomorrow, which I appear to have watched (and not been impressed by) just a couple of years ago but have already completely forgotten.

Regret to announce that my trusty Batman / Fringe Survival bag is on its last legs. It'll be a sad day when I have to transfer all these badges to a new bag... Mainly because I got so sick of them breaking off that I've superglued them all

Black bag which has the Batman logo partially visible under an array of arts-related badges and stickers

Just heard the usual Fringe moaning from the locals as one person had the old favourite complaint about them suddenly stopping "without warning". I cannot think of a single time I've stopped in the street but turned round first to let the people behind me know I'm stopping. Who actually does this?
