The experts on poverty are the people who live it. Break the poverty machine #BTPM 🍞🌹🏡

We have zero confidence that DEWR can safely or lawfully administer the TCF – it's not possible. Yet again DEWR acting in bad faith with no regard for the human cost of compulsory activities, and they aren't offering any meaningful compensation to people who had their payment cancelled unlawfully.

Tom Studans@maximumwelfare.bsky.social · 21h ago

#BREAKING 🚨 The new DEWR Secretary announced they'll seek to resume suspending or cancelling welfare payments on October 26 in respect of: • Refusal or failure to accept an offer of suitable work • Failure to 'reconnect' with a provider within 4 weeks www.dewr.gov.au/assuring-int...

The ultimate outcome of folks paying higher mortgages is not slower price increases, it's more of us being made *actually* poor, because employers fire people or cut casual shifts to maintain profit. Unemployment is by design & the RBA chief doesn't care a bit about how many lives she destroys.

Why does the Reserve Bank want to make Australians feel poorer? 🤔 Co-CEO Richard Denniss answers this question and more in the latest episode of 'What's the Point?' 🏦🏦🏦 #auspol @richarddenniss.bsky.social

Presumably this 350 hectares is unsuitable for houses and that’s why people like Albanese think it’s such a good idea to use it to accelerate the expansion of anti human, climate destroying infrastructure instead of … building public housing, or literally anything else at all.

Some of these are problems with the penalty framework, some of these are problems with the legislation, some of these are problems for the lawfulness of mutual obligations sanctions more broadly, some problems are because companies are defrauding the Commonwealth, some are because Centrelink sucks,

Targeted Compliance Framework unlawfully knobs payment expenditure like this: • Entitlements suspended/deferred by providers • Not restored in timely fashion • Then reduced or cancelled entirely • Backpay withheld • Those who go through this don't claim in future FIVE times. They're entitlements!

Media needs to start: - verifying and examining claims that housing opportunities are really being offered to people in homeless camps - educate about how camps can help with some safety and amenity concerns of homeless people

The beatings will continue until morale improves "Fines could be an incentive, council says "The knowledge that we will eventually exercise some form of regulatory power might incentivise them to take up the opportunities being provided to them,"

“It is only natural for the community to have concerns about conflicts of interest when we see the employment minister – who is supposed to be holding these providers accountable – headlining their industry conference..." Full statement below 👇

Amanda Rishworth and the Albanese government love giving billions of dollars in public money to make millionaires off the backs of poor people. Great report from CICTAR showing the legal way job agencies profit from poverty. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-07...

Private firms profit as Australia's job system fails workers, report finds

A new report argues Australia's employment services system is failing jobseekers, while filling the pockets private equity and millionaires.

joblink has received $2.2 million from the FORCED UNPAID LABOUR OF POOR PEOPLE in the past 2 years It's completely legal for this charity to rake in 10s of millions in public funds making poor people do harmful activities then turn around & give the profit to a festival put on by their board member

Excerpt from joblink plus financial statements showing the following revenue breakdown for FY25:
$20.3 million from Workforce Australia;
$1.2 million from Work for the Dole;

We're looking into it. What we do know from their most recent financial statements lodged with the charities commission is that they spend millions a year on "community donations and initiatives", so a couple of hundred thousand dollars would very much be within their budget.

Excerpt from JOBLINK plus financial statements. There was $50 million in revenue in the most recent financial year and $2.4 million was spent on "community donations and initiatives".

We're supporting community housing tenants at a number of locations who are experiencing predatory rent setting, price gouging from electricity, water & internet retailers connected to their landlord & issues with maintenance. Get in touch via team@antipovertycentre.org if you have similar problems

In 5 years when the uselessness of the ALP’s announcements for more private supply of housing & tinkering in the style of tortuous and unliveable market-rate rent extortion, then the loud and “give them time!” proud defenders will disappear into the night & pretend they never supported this shitbox.

The HAFF is doing exactly what it was designed to do – profit developers, financiers & community housing landlords at the expense of folks who need homes we can afford. We don't need MORE private landlords, especially not super funds using poor people to benefit those with high super balances.

I live in transitional housing, for seriously disabled or aged people who are homeless and lack supports to be exited to independent living. It's like a disability based homeless place. Anyway, we aren't allowed heating or cooling of the very mouldy residences

@antipovertycentre.org is there any info on the MyGov and Express Plus apps not being useable on GrapheneOS? I couldn't download Express Plus at all but I had MyGov working until recently and now it returns, "Compromised Device" which is such a bunch of BS. Feels like a surviellance thing...
