Something that’s been lost in the NAPLAN reporting today: the equity gap in our school system is growing. First Nations kids, kids living in poverty, and those in regional, rural and remote communities are falling further behind. Most of them attend an underfunded public school.

Nearly 4 million people are living in poverty - including one in six kids. So of course the PM uses his opening address to the ALP conference to announce the *checks notes* expansion of a scheme that pays students a poverty payment. This isn't reform. This is politics as usual.

The allegations against Marist College Ashgrove are awful. Female teachers have reported being sexually harassed and intimidated by students, incidents the school has shrugged off. Misogyny has no place in schools – especially one that’s banked $162m in govt funding over the decade.

Public schools have been underfunded for decades. Despite under-resourcing and increasingly difficult classroom conditions, teachers work tirelessly every day to support our kids. That’s why we should all back tomorrow’s strike by Victorian public school teachers and staff.

No institution should be able to move assets beyond survivors' reach and call it good governance. I've referred these Christian Brothers asset transfers to the AFP and ACNC for investigation. Survivors have waited long enough.
