MSCA has supported many ECR and amazing research over the years. Yet, the increase in applicants (+64%) for MSCA postdoctoral fellowships (linked to ECR fleeing the US?) has not been met by an increased budget. Thus a score of 96.4/100 is not enough this year to have a project funded.

The Marie Skoldowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships had the most applications ever in its history this season. ~17k this season vs. ~10k last season. It is brutal out here for we who love physics beyond measure. marie-sklodowska-curie-actions.ec.europa.eu/news/msca-po...

Point of no return: academic #funding is at a tipping point. When the effort and money spent applying for grants equals or exceeds the funding awarded, the system stops serving science and starts draining it. Time to rethink how we fund #research. 🧪🌐🌍 www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Point of no returns: researchers are crossing a threshold in the fight for funding

With so little money to go round, the costs of competing for grants can exceed what the grants are worth. When that happens, nobody wins.

For the love of mammoths, if you're not going to review a manuscript please decline right away. Don't just ignore the reminders and then let the system auto-decline after two weeks. Happy holidays to all who say "no" in a timely manner, and may those who suggest alternatives have a happy New Year.
