After six years on the @aoir.bsky.social Exec Committee, I logged out of AoIR’s Insta acct yesterday, my very last task for the Exec. AoIR has been my core academic community for a long time, & the end of my time on the Exec has provoked some thoughts & feelings: www.tamaleaver.net/2025/11/05/r...
Reflecting on Six Years on the AoIR Executive Committee (Some Thoughts and Feels)
Last month at the Association of Internet Researcher’s (AoIR’s) annual conference—held for the first time in Latin American, namely in Niterói, Brazil—my time on Executive Committee came to an end …

Last session on a Friday afternoon is always a hard one, but we made the most of our small round table discussing lessons of the @aoir.bsky.social flashpoint on platform & AI governance. thx to @tomdivon.bsky.social @taylorannabell.bsky.social @deeliu97.bsky.social & Thales Lelo!! #aoir2025
#AoIR2025 is next week! Easiest programme to read on a mobile is on the Sched app: aoir2025ruptures.sched.com
Just three weeks until #AoIR2025 Ruptures kicks off in Niterói, Brazil, and we can't wait to see you all!
AoIR is pleased to congratulate the winners of this year’s Nancy Baym Book Award @aramsinn.bsky.social & @jesgilbert.bsky.social for The Secret Life of Data: Navigating Hype and Uncertainty in the Age of Algorithmic Surveillance (@mitpress.bsky.social). Congratulations! aoir.org/2025nb_booka...
If you are coming to #Aoir2025 you ll prove coxinha in our lunch (and also the vegan version with carrots)
It’s the Sete de Setembro – Brazil’s Independence Day – so it is only right that Coxinha, the emblematically Brazilian chicken croquette, is #RecipeOfTheDay! These, though, are mini versions, much more manageable for making at home. www.nigella.com/recipes/coxi...
I'll be giving a talk titled "You've got a friend, until they block you: The management of personal ties in the digital age" hosted by the Centre for Digital Humanities, Cultures and Media, The University of Manchester, on 25/9/25 at 3pm. If you're in the area, please come!
The conference program for the #AoIR2025 Ruptures conference is now available, here: www.conftool.org/aoir2025/ses... Can't wait to see you all in Niterói (or online)!
Officially booked my flight to Rio De Janeiro for the Association of Internet Researchers conference. First time traveling to present at a conference. Super excited. #AoIR2025
For folks planning to attend #AOIR2025 in Niteroi/Rio this October, I just saw that American is advertising $550 round-trip tickets on its front page. @aoir.bsky.social
Are you attending #AoIR2025 @aoir.bsky.social in Brazil? Are you an early-career scholar? Then maybe you'd like to help me coordinate and organize the face-to-face early-career workshop! Reach out if you are interested or if you know anybody who might be the right fit.

Many thanks to @aoir.bsky.social & @zemki.bsky.social for the opportunity to share my research on the UN’s Global Digital Compact at the #AoIR2025Symposium. I discussed how its approach to data flows/AI governance reflects data colonialism and sidelines Global South calls for digital sovereignty.
Our incredible #AoIR2025Symposium is almost over… We are grateful for the opportunity to host so many brilliant scholars who share our passion for researching platform governance, content moderation, and generative AI. Already looking forward to what comes next. Let’s keep the momentum going!
I had a fantastic time at the #AoIR2025Symposium! I leave inspired and challenged, happy to see so many friendly faces. Thankful to @zemki.bsky.social @aoir.bsky.social @ckatzenbach.bsky.social @rscarlets.bsky.social and all the team for organizing such a great space.
Proud to be part of the @aoir.bsky.social important conversation at the Flashpoint symposium. Asked to reflect on the concept of “platform governance” in 2025. In a nutshell, platform governance is, in my opinion, a pro-firm framing that has supported lack of regulation for the past 15-20 years.
We are hosting the 2025 @aoir.bsky.social Flashpoint Symposium in Bremen! 🎯 CfP "From Platform Governance to Generative AI: Concepts, Methods, and Data for Studying Tech Governance" 📆 3-4 June 2025, Bremen, DE 🗒️ Deadline for Abstracts: 15 February 2025 platform-governance.org/aoir-flashpo...
First panel at #AoIR2025Symposium, w/ Rasmus Kleis Nielsen, presenting new work w/ @deeliu97.bsky.social, Emilie de Keulenaar on the politics of "big tech". Prelim results for EU policy/political discourse: How is the term BIG TECH used, and by whom? (Focus on EU and US in the policy domain)
🥳 We're kicking off the #AoIR2025Symposium tonight in Bremen! Thank you to everyone joining us for the next two days to critically explore the evolving landscape of platform and AI governance. We look forward to lively discussions! 👉 platform-governance.org/aoir-flashpo...
