The thing about the phone book is… That’s how the Terminator was able to track down Sarah Connor. Alberta, Alberta…
This evening I will announce my intention to not demolish all the infrastructure in the City like an insane person. And - even though the vast majority of you said OBVIOUSLY NO - I will also hold a referendum on it so the PEOPLE CAN DECIDE. - (clearly a joke - which in these times must be stated)
Now take a referendum, and wrap it in ANOTHER referendum!
In 2019 I worked with Council to reduce consultant costs by hundreds of millions of dollars on a go forward basis. Yes, you read that right. Cumulatively we are saving enormous amounts of money thanks to that move. globalnews.ca/video/549662...

I have advocated for considering free parking downtown in evenings and weekend on non-event days. I do have to admit, however - I was downtown last night and every City owned parking spot was taken. Literally every spot for blocks around. We parked in an Impark lot.
Rare author opinion incoming: I don’t care about faithful adaptations of source material. The source material exists, it will always be there. Anything that was inspired by it is new and deserves to be new and I don’t have to engage with it if I don’t want to. I love new perspectives.
If you want democracy, don’t try to do an end-run around democracy. Test your ideas in the electoral process. The judiciary is supposed to also serve as a check and balance to potential political corruption. And they do. To frame it as anti-democratic is bordering on rhetorical insanity.
Appealing to sanity is an inherently defensive, and ultimately doomed posture, particularly when the person opposite only throws a steady stream of grenades. This is called asymmetrical warfare and the responsible people are always left to try to contain the mess. All cortisol, no oxytocin.
Government politician: we’re cooked. Scandal after scandal. Corruption and incompetence. Even our supporters are catching on. Should we be better governors for the people? Strategist: whoa whoa whoa. I have a better answer.. ✨ CULTURE WARS✨ -bike lanes -book bans -gerrymandering -wOkEiSm -DARVO
Capitalism requires continual growth or stagnation, recession & depression occur. That means, broadly, that economies require populations to grow for: workforce, production, & spending. Low birth rates means Alberta & Canada require immigration - a lot of it. Fast. Remigration is unsustainable.
These are the folks who think they can run a country. Absolute joke.
Albertans should consider every legal option available in light of the release of YOUR personal Elections Alberta information. Up to and including MASSIVE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT(s). Make them pay for intentionally compromising your privacy. #ableg
Hey Premiers, A hot tip: If you want capitalism to work, let capitalism work. Remove restrictive covenants on grocery store locations and allow competition to exist. Otherwise it’s just socialism for the few big groceries at the expense of the people.
This got picked up by our American counterparts and the comments show the serious risk we are facing when politicians get to set their own electoral boundaries. So much wasted time, anxiety, and resources when the answer is simple: Be ethical.
This is absolute corruption, in case anyone was wondering. At no point should elected officials be involved designing their own electoral boundaries. Especially in their own favour. Win by doing a good job, not by stealing the voices of the electorate.

Whoever thought the Bibliotank would actually have to defend its books from outside forces?
Thoughtless words create a thoughtless world. This seems like a pretty simple statement but is the root of so many of the absolutely avoidable problems and chaotic results we are seeing in the world today. Thoughtlessness in terms of the greater humanistic and natural world is absolutely dangerous

The UCP has forced every municipality in Alberta to repeal any bylaw placing limits on election signs on public property. This means signs can be: ✅ in intersections ✅ in public parks ✅ unrestricted in number and frequency I spoke with @apaquette.bsky.social about the impacts

Councillor Motion for Snow and Ice Surge Capacity Some folks may want to know about next steps. I will be making the following notice of motion next Tuesday at the Urban Planning Committee. That means it will be debated as one of the last items in the following Council meeting. Here it is:
Want to build your own Snow & Ice Control budget? I built a tool using city data. You can adjust budget, see the tax result, & run sims on how the last month of snow events played out. It’s transparent, interactive, and hopefully not boring. Works best on Desktop 🖥️ aaronpaquette.ca/snow-ice
