I saw the Odyssey in Sicily last night, in a small antifascist theater where they still have intermission (it cut the Circe scene in half) in a migrant neighborhood not far from the red light district. Today's Mediterranean can still seen in Homer's poem (less so in Nolan's).
The diarrhea lettuce company, Taylor Farms, uses slave labor contracted from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections. The backbreaking labor is often performed by imprisoned Mexican nationals who would be otherwise ineligble to work in the US. They are paid $1.50 an hour.

Such a loss for all. Fernández's book on the Young Lords is one of the greatest books of history I have ever read. Not just because the research and writing are excellent, but because the entire project is done in solidarity—including suing the NYPD to unearth buried moments of struggle.
