this week's post is about the torment nexus, AI dystopia, and self-driving cars that will take you to jail margaretkilljoy.substack.com/p/when-they-...
They asked me my AI policy I said it's just two words and the first one is fuck
The Cleveland Public Library's union voted overwhelmingly, 97%, to authorize a strike, which will happen in August if the administrators continue to stall contract negotiations. As an author whose work is carried by those libraries, I whole-heartedly endorse the library workers.
Cheryl Reeve, winningest coach in WNBA history, defends transgender athletes against sports bans. “Exclusion is never the answer. Separate isn’t equal. Trans lives matter.” 💗🏳️⚧️💗🏀💗
Sometimes I worry I’m becoming some kind of left wing version of a trucker listening Limbaugh, other times I’m listening to tales of Cool People who did Cool Stuff and @margaret.bsky.social and @iwriteok.bsky.social turn me on to George A. Romero’s 1981 classic Knightriders and I know I’ll be okay…
People ask me about once a week why I use Substack. Here is my answer. I do not expect it to satisfy everyone, but it is the truth.
I know this answer won't please everyone but: I don't expect software that I use to means test its users. In the past, when people have pushed for software (such as Patreon and Twitter) to deplatform Nazis, what has happened universally is that they begin to deplatform "extremism"...
this is very true, though I will say one way social media CAN improve your writing is by giving you a clearer understanding of how and why people (honestly) misinterpret or fail to understand things. That's helpful, if you can spot the genuinely confused from the maliciously misunderstanding.
every time you write overly defensively you should remember that you are pursuing a strategy of writing careful sentences specifically for people who demonstrably either won't or can't read them
The wonderful @margaret.bsky.social carved herself a little nook in a local B&N I visited recently. It was lovely to see. Also finally got myself Gibson's Sprawl Trilogy, which will be nice
"It’s not asking you to speak up for people you like. It’s asking us to fight for people we can’t even stand. "Because our choice is either we have a society in which we are allowed to be different from one another, or we don’t. And in the latter kind of society, a lot of us will be dead."
This week's post is about how the Red Scare is a big enough tent for all of us. With an explainer about socialism vs anarchism vs communism, complete with a diagram. margaretkilljoy.substack.com/p/a-red-scar...

just finished The Lost Cause by @doctorow.pluralistic.net and it's on my short list of climate fiction that I think people should read, books that actually imagine fully fleshed out ideas of how we can unfuck the planet.
✨ Announcing our Institute Book Club pick! ✨ This summer, our Institute participants will read and discuss Margaret Killjoy’s (@margaret.bsky.social) fantasy novel The Sapling Cage. Thank you to The Center for Fiction for helping us obtain copies for all of our students!
i guess it's an election year so now I have to block everyone who screams "all criticism of democrats or the electoral system means you want the republicans to win." I that's you, just let me know so I can block you? Or you could just block me. We're not going to have productive conversations.
democratic politicians summed up neatly
So brave of her to have to overcome her constituents
Leave it to the New York Times to present the pro-genocide AIPAC candidate as a plucky underdog
fuck yeah apocalypse sun is out, shining down on us in fearful red, and I can play the game "am I low energy today because of the heat wave, the wildfire smoke, maybe i caught covid and didn't notice, because I work too much, or is it because I ate uncooked vegetables and got a parasite"
important update my dog is woofing and wagging his tail in his sleep with his eyes open, like I can see his eyes moving in REM sleep while he does it. i love the demon that my friend found by the side of the road and gave to me.
AI fraud nearly derailed our next anthology. Today we’re talking about what went down, the things we missed, and publishing the report we wish we’d had when it happened. Read all about it on our new blog, and download the full report:

Wake up babe, @margaret.bsky.social wrote another absolute banger. "Many people, understandably, are happy to be less responsible for themselves and their needs and their decisions...because the civilized world seems to have been built on unfreedom" margaretkilljoy.substack.com/p/the-worker...

i'll probably delete my account or at least go completely inactive if bluesky ends up requiring age verification in my area. I'm not showing my ID to this social media app. I suppose I'll start migrating to Mastadon and accept that the cyberpunks were right all along. @margaret@kolektiva.social
Wait that big wooden horse is full of fucking GREEKS??
My god. The Heritage Foundation, which mercilessly attacked transgender kids in order to protect the "integrity of women's sports," is now attacking the legal basis for women's sports. The transgender student decision is barely 2 weeks old.
I don't use this word lightly, but this is evil.
