Scouts awards night and the troop leader who must be about 70 and the most small c conservative man ever giving a pro Just stop oil and Palestine action speech
I actually took a picture of the the aftermath last night as I couldn't work out what happened. Still baffles me how you crash in a place like that
What happens when you create a high-traffic neighbourhood by removing the modal filters on the Braid Estate… SUVs end up on their side Junction of Braid Rd and Hermitage Dr. Around school pick up time, Thursday 1st Oct
Are we seriously doing the AGAIN? Who is it this time?
I'm kinda fully over that "the British conquered the world for spices and don't use any of them" joke because for one, you cannot recycle material for 5 straight generations and get a laugh worth a damn but also because in order to make it you have to agree with Tommy Robinson about who is British
I am reminded of Daniel Sloss's book where for some bizarre reason they translated all school years into American even though it was explicitly about his life in Scotland If they had just changed it to the kids ages, that would have been fine! It wasn't like the precise school years mattered!
I am five pages into this and the same person has said both 'loo roll' and 'roommates' for flatmates and OMG I am so annoyed I'm not sure I can continue.
I've been sewing today, literal hours and it's all been on this fly. every single seam unpicked several times - partly my own inattentiveness and partly the instructions being wrong (I am 98% sure they're wrong) But I did it, my first fly! Maybe I could actually make some jeans!
I cycled to work at the Shore via leith walk the other day (I usually go Holyrood park - Easter road) and at every light there were 15 cyclists waiting to go up the way. It's brilliant, love the voi bikes contribution to this!
An insight into cycling trends - the introduction of Voi bikes has added about 500 additional cyclists per day to Leith Walk; the tram closure added another 250 at the peak. The Voi effect is much larger at the weekend, while the inverse is true for the tram.
This is when I discover Americans have lifetime fixed rate mortgages! An actual good thing the rest of the world doesn't!
it's remarkable just how much worse the interest rate situation makes the housing crisis my wife and I bought our house in 2013 and we have a 3.6% mortgage rate if I plug 7.5% into the mortgage calculator our payment jumps over a thousand dollars a month
Of course these were going to be broken before they were filled. Still hoping they'll rethink the death trap they've created on the other side of the junction.

This is wild for a variety of reasons, but also part of a wider trend of appointing random people with no academic experience whatsoever as professors. Cough cough Kezia Dugdale
Indian oil and gas heir made professor of sustainability at Newcastle University
Colony of artists was heaving so barely took any pictures and had to severely prioritise what houses we went into but was a nice day out anyway!
We're going to introduce the children to this tonight, which we have been referring to as 'I am in lesbians with you'
watching ludwig and some weird background blurring going on, in a way that I can't see being intentional. Like blurry all around the sides of the screen Is there some setting that we can turn off or do they actually want you to be distracted by it? We did get a new tv recently
LNER going for an ad strategy that is localised enough to name the correct city but not localised enough to realise the phrasing is going to annoy the city in question.
I thought this was about Mike Wozniak and was somewhat confused
steve wozniak just launched an absurdly overdone merch shop including a line of Woz branded chardonnay.... god i love him so much
I'm quite invested in the Ed Sheeran thing and need news. There are concerts on right now, right? Is he doing them with completely unrehearsed random musicians, and no support bands? I haven't seen anything to suggest they are actually fully cancelled
Sure, these things cost money which is very limited. But so long as the council keeps finding it to: 🅰️ do stupid active transport stuff that's of marginal-to-zero benefit 🅱️ prioritise removing stuff already in the ground to placate segments of electorate Then it's a deliberate choice.
Attempts to close the road in front of Sciennes primary started before my kids started, my youngest is now in p7 and there is a 0% chance it will happen before he finishes. The only reason it's even temporarily closed is because of Covid
The council has these things down to a fine art. Yes you *could* have some basic road safety measures outside a school, but it's going to take you a huge amount of effort and your kids will almost be finished by the time a spade hits the ground, so are you sure you want to really bother?
FOUR YEARS to get a zebra crossing installed near a school. Disgraceful 🤦♂️ www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/edinbur...

In the Folds Elwood dress for Scottish Frocktails — apple franca
I bought the pattern for this dress ages ago. I really enjoy In the Folds patterns, and for a long time I would have said the Rushcutter dress was my favourite pattern, but some time ago she decided t...

This is a lovely piece, and I also learnt from itthat ginger cats are not all male, just 3/4 of them are. I was initially very confused! Calico cats are always female though!
"Perhaps prison would have persisted this way forever. Perhaps our granite hearts and iron wills would have never crumbled. Perhaps the prison mentality, that we be cold and heartless, would have endured. Perhaps. But then there were kittens."
I found this really interesting, and scary. I unrelatedly have got so annoyed with Vinted recently that I actually withdrew all of my money from it yesterday, turned off notifications and moved it to the back screen.
Vinted Brain: How Britain lost its mind to online shopping addiction, by Kate Mossman
I thought this was good but was surprised she didn't leave FB in a whistleblowing blaze of glory but rather was sacked after unsuccessfully trying to get away from a big bosses sexual harassment. If they had just let her move department this book may never exist!
Can confirm that Braid Road, and the rest of the estate, is back to being a car traffic sewer. Took me 3x as long to get through it, *as a cyclist*. 4x close passes 2x drivers ignoring parallel crossing 2x wrong way down Braidburn Terrace 1x use of pavement as carriageway
I am slightly more likely to call it Westfield than St James *quarter* to be fair
