The worst part about making a paper prototype is... making the paper prototype.

Spending some time today to make a paper prototype of the mini-game I've designed for my RPG. Excited to play through it with kids and get their feedback.
The last year, and in particular the last 4.5 months, has been really hard but things are starting to turn around and have had a few pieces of very good, welcome, news.
Today's amusing bug: Test enemy just committed suicide by repeatedly targeting itself and using it's melee attack...
Really excellent write-up on one of the biggest mistakes our industry keeps making again and again.
If knowledge if power, why are game companies setting it alight?
As someone who has been caught in the shifting sands of the games industry churn, I'm eternally shocked by how many studios will reject a 16 year veteran with experience across indie and AAA, multiple shipped titles and a host of different titles and experiences without even an interview.
From the mind that brought you "Where the Sidewalk Ends" and "A Light in the Attic" comes a new vision of horror... The Twistable Turnable Man

Excellent post-mortem thread from Jim here. I think a lot about how we, as we learn to make games, trend towards being risk-averse, but how that also deprives us of deeply interesting and sometimes experimental experiences born out of plain old Not Knowing Any Better.
One thing I never did was a post-mortem of Sir. Perhaps this is as good a time and place as any to talk about some of that. It started in 2010 when Channel 4 had some money to spend on making educational games. For some reason they asked me. ->thread
I can't help but hear Samantha in Dungeon Crawler Carl as though she's being played by Nadja from What We Do in the Shadows. I really hope they cast her for the adaptation that's in the works.
My youngest daughter has wanted to try Japanese Cloud (Souffle) pancakes for a while so today I tried my hand at making them. They're not the prettiest because I didn't have enough fat in my steel pan and they got stuck, but I can confirm they are really fucking delicious.
The curse of being omni-capable in your profession is the ever present urge to say 'fuck it, I'll do it myself' and just dig yourself the deepest hole.
The last year in this industry has been tough as hell being unemployed and seeing more and more colleagues join the ranks. I've absolutely felt this way and that's a big part of why I've thrown myself into my personal project and tried to focus on all the good in my life. But it's so, so hard.

I mourn the loss of physicality in games. While it's more convenient to consume digital media, the experience of interacting with physical media is part of the experience.

The richest and most powerful people in the world, both financial and political, are the ones who have the means to save the world. But they refuse.
Game developers do the longest, most complicated magic tricks.
Time for a thought experiment: Let's say you're a big company in the technology space and you want to get a slice of the games market. You make a big investment, then invest consistently over time and beg acquiring creative resources to support that investment.
So this is solid proof that the people making this technology are clearly aware of how easily it can be manipulated and exploited in a way that is directly harmful to everyone that interacts with it, including minors. Sure would be nice to have working courts.

Look, much as I like seeing a good node graph it really doesn't tell you anything. Yeah, that's a lot of nodes but like back in 2016 I did this. Is it more or less impressive? It's, uh, both.

While it's not officially ranked, it's wonderful to see Starlink: Battle for Atlas on the list. The team was absolutely thrilled to get to work with the Star Fox IP for our crazy big little game and it remains a highlight of my career!
With Star Fox on our minds, we decided to revisit our ranking of the games for the first time since the release of Star Fox Zero in 2016. You'll never guess what we put as number one! Unless you guessed Star Fox (2026). If that's the case, then you nailed it. gameinformer.com/b/features/a...
