The Odyssey is doing so well because it’s the further tales of a cunning general who, while serving an aura farming commander clad in imposing black armor, uses a huge four legged device to break impenetrable defenses, subconsciously filling people’s desire for more Veers stories

i really like how nolan's cyclops design solves the classic problem of having a human nose end directly underneath a human eye nolan's cyclops instead tilts the nose, creating a transition into a vertical eye, which looks even more monstrous

a side-by-side comparison of christopher nolan's cyclops versus the 50's film ulysses' cyclops: jordan's drawn a diagram of a human face, with two ovals bisected by a nose and a line for a mouth. nolan's clyclops has the the nose bend a 45 degree angle, so that a vertical eye can fit above it. the 50's cyclops has a shorter nose that simply stops below a centered, level eyeball.

the odyssey is a movie about repeatedly panic-sprinting back to your ship punctuated by truly transcendent cinematic ideas, continuing nolan's recent themes on the human toll of winning a war. 5 stars
