Q9: What #editing resources do you recommend for #editors who want to brush up on LGBTQ+ inclusive language? Think: newsletters, blogs, books, webinars, classes, social media accounts, etc. #StetChat

Graphic that reads: Question 9. What editing resources do you recommend for editors who want to brush up on LGBTQ+ inclusive language?

Because it's never just about language. Queer and trans people deserve to see ourselves represented, yes, but language is also being used at the legislative level to villainize and erase us (speaking from a U.S. perspective here, though this is true in many places across the world as well) #StetChat

Q4: Why is it important to suggest edits to make language more LGBTQ+ inclusive? How do you frame those benefits to your clients and authors? Share examples or anecdotes! #StetChat

Graphic that reads: Question 4: Why is it important to suggest edits to make language more LGBTQ+ inclusive? How do you frame those benefits to your clients and authors?

completely agree! it's consistently used to subtly (they think) deride trans people for having the gall to say we're the gender we are.

#StetChat A lot of people are pointing out "identifies as" and I would also like to kill that phrasing with fire. If it was used the way I might use it, as in "my identity is complicated, and it's much easier for me to say queer than to give you the laundry list," that would be one thing. BUT NO.

TESTIMONIAL: I WAS STUCK ON A FINAL PAPER AND ELLIOTT PATIENTLY TALKED TO ME FOR FORTY MINUTES AND UNSTUCK ME, DESPITE NEVER HAVING READ THE BOOK IN HIS LIFE. HE'S LIKE. REALLY SMART. AND YOU CAN PAY HIM FOR HIS INSIGHTS, SO YOU CAN GET UNSTUCK TOO! #THANKYOUELLIOTT
