Trying to make things that vaguely resemble games (and the tech to make them work). Recently released corpo/ghost as @interleavedsystems.com https://store.steampowered.com/app/2844660/corpoghost/?utm_source=bskybio

had a funny thought while listening to a thing and remembering another thing the same thing that "AI" did to art stores, it also did to app stores it made discovering the next big app much harder for everyone, reducing the odds of success for most app-focused startups great job lol, truly amazing

breaking: Wikimedia Foundation says it will not voluntarily recognize its workers union, instead insisting on an election held under Trump's NLRB. Wiki Foundation execs dodged this question at its massive conference last week. www.404media.co/wikimedia-wa...

Wikimedia Waits Until After Its Massive Conference to Say It Won’t Voluntarily Recognize Union

A supermajority of Wikimedia Foundation workers say they have signed union cards, but the foundation is insisting on an election.

things like this are particularly interesting in the context of EU's "chat control", where these companies are incentivized to spy on everyone's private messages to "protect children" curious what @eppgroup.bsky.social - the party lobbying most intensely for chat control - thinks about it

Mark Zuckerberg's assistant at Meta, Josh Felker, who was responsible for Meta's "digital experiences for kids," was arrested after admitting he tried to sext a 13-year-old during an undercover sting. nypost.com/2026/07/20/u...

catching up on industry s3/s4 it feels like the closer it gets to politics, the more it gets into conspiracy drama and exposes a very liberal-leaning understanding of things having witnessed the recent blatant corruption in the UK from 1700km away, it feels really fucking naive at this point

randomly thinking about how the brain works was thinking about how the word "is" actually corresponds to vast variety of concepts (equality, assignment, descriptors etc.) and has lots of usually unexpressed qualifiers (current, historical, fictional, hypothetical etc.)

one weird thing that exists in our local laws is that "the market" is personified for the purposes of determining whether an action is legal or not (the text in the image is machine-translated by Opera but I've verified that it's accurate enough, even if a bit awkwardly phrased)

www.cnbc.com/video/2026/0... 3:18 > [..] today, there is no dark compute, every amount of compute that is being deployed is being utilized. even if we're ignoring the impossibility of that statement, and the clever trick of only considering "deployed" compute, this still seems like a stretch

AI is becoming more of a necessity, says BofA's Vivek Arya

Vivek Arya, senior semiconductor analyst at Bank of America Securities, joins 'Squawk Box' to discuss the momentum in the chip sector, what investors should expect, and more.

As the director of a historical video game preservation institution, and someone who has dedicated his entire adult life to this cause, this is accurate. We have attempted to work with the industry's trade organization to find a legal path forward, but they refuse to offer a meaningful alternative.

piracy is the only extant form of media preservation that exists in games right now, you might find it morally reprehensible but there is literally no other institution that will keep games alive in 25, 50 years' time

seemingly a lot of economic fairness solutions boil down to "the only way to stop a bad guy with greed is a good guy with greed" anything market-based (a lot of antitrust stuff), unions etc. it becomes an infinite loop balancing act, not unlike pushing a ball down Penrose stairs

Ford has rehired hundreds of senior engineers after replacing them with AI backfired and has cost the company billions of dollars. AI adoption is blamed for Ford being the most recalled automaker in the U.S. with 51 recalls covering over 11 million vehicles in the first half of 2026 alone.

it's a bit funny seeing a bunch of people marxifying (in a way) due to "AI" - either the rent seeking based on stolen IP or the RAM/disk price increases talking about seizing the means of production and whatnot problem is, the people working on both are AFAIK already paid very well for their work

Treating surveillance as an isolated privacy problem is the wrong frame, says UN Special Rapporteur Gina Romero, who argues digital monitoring is dismantling the trust, funding, and institutional memory that civil society depends on to function. www.techpolicy.press/the-quiet-er...

The Quiet Erosion of Collective Action Under Digital Surveillance

Digital surveillance is undermining privacy, trust and civic freedoms across 84 countries, writes United Nations Special Rapporteur Gina Romero.

how I imagine investing for dividends it's not quite that simple (really should be a bunch of people reaching into some of each other's pockets) but should be accurate as a general principle it's just extracting of the same surplus that you (or others like you) have overpaid to make it possible
