A STAT analysis of NIH spending shows that in the 2026 fiscal year, which ended Wednesday, the agency continued reducing grant awards involving health disparities, race, and ethnicity but made little progress toward other Trump administration priorities. https://bit.ly/3Vu0JPq

I'm excited to share a new article on how people with chronic pain experience social support in group medical visits. We know social support helps chronic pain--this article describes in detail what it can look like for health care to include social support! www.annfammed.org/content/24/5...

We are all touched by federal grants (libraries, local arts non-profits, health care services, and much more), and will be negatively affected by these changes. Thankfully it is easy to write public comments opposing them! Comments can be anonymous & just a few sentences, or much longer

Competition for NIH grants is stiffer than it has ever been. Researchers we surveyed are scrambling for alternatives — but even pivoting is hard, because of a lack of NIH solicitations for awards To some, things feel bleaker than they did a year ago www.statnews.com/2026/04/30/n...

Securing NIH awards is getting more competitive — and confusing

The likelihood of snagging NIH grants has plunged to historic lows, forcing academic researchers to resort to a variety of tactics to try to obtain funding

Recently, the accrediting body for U.S. medical schools quietly published updated standards that no longer explicitly require med schools to teach about health equity. In my piece, I argue that this rollback harms us all & that medical schools have an obligation to keep teaching this content.

Why rolling back health equity training in medical schools is a dangerous failure that puts all patients at risk.
