I NEED YOUR ATTENTION. When violent and controlling people start to feel their power slip, they become more violent and controlling. I believe this is what’s happening in the Administration, now. This is a CRITICAL INFLECTION POINT: we MUST come together and push back *hard* NOW. 🧵 a thread

Bay Area friends: would you consider opening your home to these two cuddly cats? A friend found them behind a gas station. Their sibling, a black cat, got adopted, but it appears no one likes orange cats. They are being kept in a bathroom for the time being and need a home.

A friend of mine found these three kittens behind a Bay Area gas station. They are tame, vaccinated, and incredibly affectionate. Unfortunately, she's unable to keep them and I'm trying to find them a home. They are at risk of going to a shelter. Bay Area people, are you open to adopting?

Higher education has been hemming & hawing about how to earn the public's trust and I must say, capitulating to the Trump administration on behalf of all institutions without a broader discussion, facilitated by Koch-brothers-supported AEI, is a hell of a way to DO THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF BUILD TRUST.

How Elite Colleges Aided Censorship During the Red Scares

Powerful organizations during the Red Scares crafted a world where “academic freedom” was conditional on political allegiance.

I appreciate that folks are expecting @standupforscience.net to act like many organizations/institutions and declare a win, then take our foot off the gas. Unfortunately for everyone involved, we are declaring a win and PUTTING PEDAL TO THE METAL. NEXT ACTION STEPS FORTH COMING TEAM!

An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play

The Campaign to Force Genital Exams on Girl Athletes Soon Washington State could require sex-verification tests for those playing sports in schools.
Portrait of Andrea González-Ramírez
By Andrea González-Ramírez, a senior writer for The Cut who covers systems of power. Those physicals, Maria explains, are usually perfunctory: “Like, Are you walking normally? Are you lightheaded? I have never had to take any clothes off. I’ve never felt uncomfortable or violated.” If IL26-638 were to pass and Maria were still in school, she says she would likely drop out of her team. (We’re withholding Maria’s real name to protect her privacy.) “I honestly don’t know if I would be able to do these tests,” she adds. “It would also make me question, If I do it, are all my teammates going to too? Or would I just play with the three or four girls who are willing to or have access to do it?”

Still amazing that the official government policy is universities can't do DEI except for hiring professors whose politics better align with the regime in power.

Time to add another formerly respected institution to the garbage pile, this time @aau.edu, which just worked with the Trump admin to endorse resegregation in high education, embedding MAGA fraudsters as faculty, and banning student expression. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Education Secretary Linda McMahon is sending a letter Monday to the leaders of US universities asking them to commit to a slate of campus reforms by the end of 2026 in the Trump administration’s latest effort to overhaul higher education.

The letter, which was reviewed by Bloomberg News, asks schools to publicly pledge to make sweeping changes that include reexamining admissions practices, hiring more conservative faculty, cracking down on student protests, combating grade inflation, reducing foreign donations and lowering tuition.

🧪 The Senate's stopgap funding bill temporarily blocks the White House plan to put political appointees in charge of federal grants. It will push this past the midterms for now. This is a big victory! #AcademicSky

This raises the stakes of the midterms substantially for public research. Based on this article, I think we can assume they’ll allow the rule to go forward if they retain a Congressional majority.

Good news. Temporary but we'll continue to fight Russell Vought's efforts. “...Republicans rejected killing the proposed rule outright,” Washington Sen. Patty Murray, the Senate’s top Democratic appropriator, said in a statement, committing to “keep fighting to put a stop to it once and for all.”

This is good, but it's temporary. The GOP Senators refused to pass a permanent ban on restructuring the grant process. They ultimately want what Trump wants, but they want folks to think they stood up to him to save their skins in the midterms. Don't fall for it. Collins needs to go.

Brian Poindexter is the first SUFS endorsement of our Midterms ‘26 Electoral Campaign. Ohio’s 7th District was on our target list before Mother Jones reported on Miller’s long history of domestic violence.
