Much of the Olta School of Magic is white stone or stucco. (Special thanks to the amazing Oli Cristadoro for the beautiful illustration of the Olta campus!) #NovemberWorldbuilders #fuckTERFmagic #TalesOfOlta

The same rectangular cloister that the Great Aquarium had occupied on the floor above was, on the House Floor, an entirely different scene of aquatic magnificence. Sweet-smelling steam clouded and perfumed the air, rising upward into the enchanted ceiling. Beams of artificial sunlight filtered delicately in the billowing cotton of the steam, gently landing on an elaborate wonderland of travertine-terraced mineral springs. Thermal algae colored the water a vibrant turquoise as it splashed over the coconut-white limestone, trickling down rusty orange and pink-stained rock till being absorbed into the next turquoise basin and the next. Students soaked, stretched, lathered, and laughed in the pools. Even here, a couple was kissing while another student splashed to get them to stop, and others held up protective enchantments to protect their books from getting wet.Illustration of the Olta School of Magic by the amazing artist Oli Cristadoro.

Good morning, #NovemberWorldbuilders! The last two color days of this week will be white and black, but feel free to squeeze a grey in on either day if you'd like! For today: Tell me about something in your world that is white (or grey!)

Hi, Kira! Hi, #NovemberWorldbuilders! Netweaver's hair is pure, bright white. Not gray, not silver, not ivory: WHITE. When Loic meets her, it is the first thing about her that catches his attention… #wip #frjosom #sciencefiction

Many homes in villages were grown next to or even on top of other homes, and thus often had an unplanned, “reclined” attitude. Even single homes standing alone seldom had a “designed” appearance. This home, however, was elegant and oddly symmetrical, so seemingly planned, while still retaining a comforting asymmetry about its overall form. Loic had never never been this high, and thus had never seen a home this far up in any Day, so he assumed that any other house at this altitude might be formed in the same manner. He picked up the striker and, not too quietly, played “stranger arriving” on a solid and elegant bamboo visitor chime attached to the post by the gate. He didn’t have to wait long for his peculiar host to appear. *** She had the whitest hair he’d ever seen. It contrasted sharply against her warm brown skin, and matched what looked to be a comfortable and practical shift in a coarse, soft, homespun fabric. Also, as she walked closer, he realized that she must not be as tall as she had appeared when stepping into the sunlight on her front steps. She was easily a head or more shorter than he was, even with the cloud of white hair adding to her stature. “Good afternoon, well arrived stranger.” Her voice was melodic but rough and low, an old viol, lovingly played. “What might I do for you?” While clearly the voice of someone very aged, it had a surprising joy in it. Loic found that he was smiling, and hoped he didn’t look idiotic. “I, ah… I brought your fish.” He slipped the pack off his back and held it out to her. She glanced at the bulging pack, then away for a moment, and then back up at him. Had she rolled her eyes in that glance away? She ignored the pack, but reached down in front of Loic to pull the catch on the gate. “Come in then. I would think you’re hungry after your climb, and it appears I have a surplus of fresh fish to offer.”

Yeah, I'm really enjoying working on book art recently. Getting these 4 covers to look as rich and textured as possible is so fun and rewarding.

We're proud to give you a preview of the cover designs for Brett Edward Stout's "The Tales of Olta" dark fantasy series, starting with "The Demon in the Dark"—which is scheduled for release April 30, 2027… @brettedwardstout.com #BookSky #Fantasy #SchoolOfMagic #Publishing

A mockup of 4 photorealistic books on a wooden table top in a darkly lit setting. The first book is titled "The Demon in the Dark" and the cover shows a hooded figure in front of ray of light, with their hand above a hovering octahedron. The other books are brown, red, and green, in that order moving back behind the first book.

I do love the "fanfare" part of this piece. While the main theme represents seeing students walking around on the campus, the fanfare at the end represents seeing one of the Olta School of Magic's floating dormitories, majestically soaring overhead. #AmComposing #ComposerLife #ThemeSong

Keep coming back to your budding creations. Just come back to them. Keep working, a bit at a time, as often as possible. That's how wonders are made.

When elected officials claim ignorance on major subjects, why is the follow up not “is this job too much for you, and will you be resigning since you’re unable to keep up with critical information?”
